These are among my most wanted movies too. Freddie Bartholomew is so good in Captains Courageous. It’s a shame he didn’t find success in acting as an adult as he’s clearly got natural talent.
I yearn for the Rogers/Astaire pictures to start being released. Surely The Barkleys of Broadway being an MGM film means its elements can’t be in that bad condition? Top Hat is one of my most wanted movies, it’ll be a happy day when that one gets announced.
You’ve summed up my thoughts entirely. The alternative ending on San Francisco was presented as a standalone extra in SD if I remember correctly so I don’t see why the same can’t be done here.
I’m happy with all three classics announced for July. My only disappointment is no classic animation. Hopefully we get something in August.
Surprised again an MGM movie is getting WB cartoons as a special feature. This says to me the MGM cartoons must not have HD versions at the moment. I hope...
Thank goodness I found this thread, I almost bought this this weekend and am glad I didn’t if the movies aren’t included. I don’t understand why Shout Factory don’t sell the disc of the movies separately if they wanted to reduce the disc count of the boxset?
Just had the pleasure to spend the evening watching this delightfully batty movie. Boris Karloff chews the scenery brilliantly. I had to pause the movie at various points just to marvel at some of the shots, they’re a work of art!
Excellent restoration as always from WAC. My biggest thanks all...
Would it be out of the realm of possibility if they just did a season or two of something the length of Dallas every quarter maybe? I’d love to get Dallas and ER on Blu-ray and would gladly buy them this way.
Excellent news all round. I’ll definitely be picking up all four classic movies.
My only slight disappointment is no Looney Tunes volume 4 which I was hoping for June so we’d be getting one every quarter but there’s not released shorts as special features on the films so I shouldn’t really...
Always great news to be getting more Crawford. I wonder why they’ve gone for a couple of Warner cartoons instead of some MGM ones? I wonder if it’s because the MGM library from that period hasn’t been upgraded to HD?
I could see Greed (and maybe The Wind) going to Criterion but I wholeheartedly agree with this. I loved The Big Parade and Our Dancing Daughters so want to see more silents from WAC.
True - I ordered this and 3 Godfathers from Moviezyng and neither have been dispatched yet.
I’m excited to see Cue Ball Cat in HD on Devil’s Doorway. I hope this means Tom and Jerry Volume 2 is coming soon.
They Drive By Night and 3 Godfathers haven’t been dispatched from Moviezygn and 3 Godfathers seems to have disappeared from my order. All very strange, but I’m sure it’ll right itself eventually.
I also took advantage of the sale getting:
Out of the Past
Song of the Thin Man
Dinner at Eight
Caged!
Neptunes Daughter
Spinout
Hey There, It’s Yogi Bear
The Long Long Trailer
Dance Fools, Dance
Wife Vs. Secretary
Dangerous When Wet
Double Trouble
Fu Manchu is the only one I’ll be getting straight away. Slightly disappointed it’s not been a massive classic MGM month but I know lots who will be very happy with Aprils picks.
I’ve seen it mentioned there’s only one colour cartoon directed by Clampett which hasn’t already been released in HD. As these discs are prioritising shorts which haven’t been released already that would account for his absence. Which is all the more reason to get some B&W Porky on the next...
The original few WAC releases had very little in the way of new special features (a habit which seems to follow RKO releases to this day) so I’m hopeful we may get some pre-made features at some point.
However if adding features reduced the number of shorts included then I’d pick shorts every...
This would actually be a great idea. Dumbo, Treasure Island, Old Yeller, Mary Poppins, Honey I Shrunk the Kids and Beauty and the Beast would make a great line up.
