A few words about…™ Hostiles — in 4k UHD Blu-ray

4 Stars Absolutely worthy of your time and investment.

Leave it to Lionsgate, which has an exemplary reputation with their 4k UHD releases, to give us Scott Cooper’s Hostiles, as photographed by Masanobu Takayanagi…

on 35mm Eastman stock, in Panavision, and finished in 4k.

Along with its DTS-HD MA 5.1 track, expect a magnificent home theater experience.

The other nice thing to report, is that a true 4k experience is presented of a superbly written and crafted film.

Performances from Christian Bale, Rosamund Pike and Wes Studi are standouts, with a minor role going to new Hollywood flavor of the month, Timothee Chalamet.

Absolutely worthy of your time and investment.

Wow, this is out already? I guess I shouldn’t be surprised these days that the turnaround time between theatrical and home release is so brief, but I just saw this wonderful film in January in the theater and loved it.

Indeed, highly recommended.

It comes out on April 24th. A really good western that I caught twice at my local cinema.

My parents were actually in Chama, New Mexico when they were filming a sequence for this film. I need to see it as I missed the relatively brief theatrical run. Glad it gets a great recommendation.

It had some Best Picture talk and some Best Actor talk prior to the nominations. Sadly, they didn't pan out for the movie. I'll look forward to seeing it at some point.

I consider Lionsgate UHD output a mixed bag with duds like 3:10 to Yuma and T2 but also many good titles. Others are more reliable. And concerning Mr. Chalamet, too early to tell, but I suspect he will be more than the flavour of some month(s).

I missed 'Hostiles' in the theater so today's Blu-ray purchase was a blind buy. Since it's a Lionsgate title, I purchased the standard Blu-ray knowing that I could redeem the digital code directly in iTunes. That gave me a "free" upgrade to the 4K HDR version via my Apple TV 4K.

I watched the film for the first time this afternoon (via the Apple TV 4K). SPECTACULAR film! Outstanding western! Gorgeous cinematography! Superb acting! Utterly enthralling story.

Did this film qualify to be considered for the 2018 Oscars? If so, it's a real shame that it wasn't nominated for Best Picture.

We will definitely be showing 'Hostiles' in the Booth Bijou Garage Theater!

Finally watched this - beautiful cinematogrpahy and fantastic acting and directing. It's a shame it was not nominated in any Oscar category this year. It's Christian Bale's best acting to date in my book.
