A Few Words About A few words about...™ The Searchers -- in High Definition

I didn’t feel like anything on the 70mm The Searchers was oversaturated at all. There were subtle shades along with bold colors, though the latter was most evident in scarves and native costumes and flags. Vera Miles looked particularly lovely, and her hair didn’t look strawberry blonde as it...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ The Searchers -- in High Definition

The current release is yellow to a fault due to trying the color correct digitally the faded negative. This is why I stated “proper yellow tones” as the proper yellow layer seems to have been restored, changing ALL of the other colors in the image that have an yellow in them. Take what I say...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ The Searchers -- in High Definition

Which is why I mentioned the 1.37:1 film that played before The Searchers when I originally viewed it… The proper matte was not in place and boom mics and set lighting were visible in many key sequences, causing the audience to laugh. Even the earliest video release of The Searchers was framed...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ The Searchers -- in High Definition

I attended a screening of the 70mm The Searchers restoration at The Egyptian this past Sunday night. Aside from one mistimed reel change near the end where the next reel wasn’t cued properly, the presentation was steady and flawless. I’m happy to report that proper yellow tones have returned to...

Don’t have them to compare so I can’t say.

The Blu-ray is mono while the DVD is stereo. I put this in the video description on YouTube.

Warner Archive Press Release: The Opposite Sex (1956) (Blu-ray)

I made this comparison pointing out the problem. I gave up waiting for Warner to correct their Blu so I did it.

Replacements for defective (mothless) GHOST SHIP discs?

And the corrected disc was authored in Nov 2021, a few months after the botched Aug 2021 one. I ordered the US disc new in Feb 2023 from Amazon and it was the original disc. Fall 2023 the UK got the corrected disc as an official release. Both are region free. I mean, come on, y’all.

Replacements for defective (mothless) GHOST SHIP discs?

The moth referenced in this scene appears to have been digitally removed as a possible flaw on the 2021 Warner Archive Blu-ray release of The Ghost Ship (1943). A corrected version with the moth rightfully restored was issued in 2023 in the UK, though the disc was authored in November 2021, just...

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - The Exorcist -- in 4k UHD

The original theatrical version was not released on Blu-ray or 4K though it was labeled as such. The opening logo was part of that, as was the finale without all of the revised filtering/color timing. That is my point and not up for debate.

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - The Exorcist -- in 4k UHD

I have an OLED too, and I thought the comparison I made of Burstyn walking shows how gorgeous, natural and detailed the 4K master is. It’s the exorcism itself where the problem is. I zoomed in to 2.5x in the second half of the video to show how the detail has been fuzzed out. Watch the video on...
