I have 3 PD movies in my collection, with Santa Fe Trail, while not perfect, being watchable. The remaining 2, The Lady and the Highwayman & The Sword of Lancelot, are in deplorable condition. Please share if you've knowledge of a company releasing an acceptable disc for either selection...
Yesterday, Digital Bits listed "AN" Ivanhoe from Sony for sale on 05/05/09. It that this title was released on VHS by Columbia, it would seem logical it's the 1982 version with Jas. Mason, Anthony Andrews, Lysette Anthony, et al. Anyone with knowledge of the above title, please share. Thank...
IMO, if ever a movie needed to be shot in Technicolor, this is such a title; according to the DVD, it wasn't due to a shortage of money. I checked the IMDb, but the box office figures weren't available. I'm curious, how much would color have added to the picture cost in the late 40s? Bob Engleman
Next month marks the beginning of my 16th yr. in the business, and the 2nd for HD. Predicated upon the 3 format wars of which I'd knowledge, I chose to pass on the product. To this date, I've neither received any requests for, nor had any customers mention its existence. In addition, I also...
Before purchasing this title, I'd never "double dipped", but I wanted a copy that included the Battle of the Coral Sea, so I took the plunge. Much to my surprise, while there were extra scenes included--a chessy Heston & Sullivan romance, ( just what was needed to accent the cheesy Albert &...
Unfortunately, for we who so enjoy movies, often the 2nd/ last entry in a franchise's terrible. Below I've listed from bad to worst, my sinful 7. The rating criteria I've used, is my opinion of the spread between the original, and sequel. 07.First Blood--Rambo 06.Dirty Dozen--DD Next Mission...
Like a broken record, I'm back with the below requests: 1.Adventures of Don Juan, The 2.Capt. Horatio Hornblower 3.Charge of the Light Brigade, The (Flynn) 4.Flame and the Arrow, The 5.Skin Game 6.There Was a Crooked Man In addition, the below listed you either own, or was released by...
Same as the last 2 yrs.: Rio Conchos From Playhouse/Key: Count of Monte Cristo, The (Chamberlain) Man in the Iron Mask, The (Chamberlain) Quarterback Princess Warriors aka Dark Avenger (Flynn) Bob Engleman
I'm back this yr. with the same: 1.Against All Flags 2.Belarus File, The (Telly Savalas as Kojak) 3.Black Shield of Falworth In addition to the above, it appears Universal holds the rights to several unreleased Kojak films, so I'm inserting them into this request. Bob Engleman
These are the same I've made since 2001; perhaps this yr. will be it!!!!! 1.Buccaneers, The (Yul Brenner) 2.Last Outpost, The (President Reagan) Re-release title-- Cavalry Charge. This was previously released by a hack outfit named Ivy Video, in a deplorable state. 3.Pony Express 4.Villa...
I watched my disc last night in disbelief, thinking surely it must be my player and/or monitor that was giving a pinkish cast to the actors faces, bldgs., and food; this morn, I checked a few sites and learned that it wasn't my gear. Of the approx. 140 DVDs in my collection issued by a major...
I, and be assured thousands of others, would be buying---- The Sting (OAR), In addition, the below are on my list: 1. Belarus File, The 2. Black Shield of Falworth, The 3. Marcus-Nelson Murders, The 4. All remaining Kojak telefilms Bob Engleman
I still only need the below title to complete my transition to DVD: Rio Conchos However, the below films released by Fox, or one of their subsidiaries on VHS, are needed: 1. Wild Geese, The 2. Warriors, The (Dark Avenger) 3. Quarterback Princess 4. Man In The Iron Mask, The...
Robt., Part of your reply to my inquiry concerning the stunning appearance of "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" was credit to U.C.L.A.; would the effect be similar if they were working on "El Cid"? I E-mailed Technicolor as to why, in my opinion, technology from the 40's would appear superior to...
I watched this DVD last night for the 2nd time, but the 1st on my 32" Magnavox; the previous viewing had been via a 72" concave projection screen. The colors were stunning, and it's certainly easy to understand the awarding of an oscar for cinematography. Was this a matter of Warner's effort...
The consensus of opinion seems to be, and I agree, that WB's the tops in DVD. The following's my picks for release in the future: 1.Adventures of Don Juan (MGM) (Flynn) 2.Beau Brummell (MGM) 3.Captain Horatio Hornblower 4.Charge of the Light Brigade (Flynn) 5.Flame and the Arrow, The...
I pride myself in being both an astute, and successful video retailer. IN addition, I recognize Universal's long standing in the industry. In that "The Sting 2", which grossed a paltry $6,300,000 in the U.S., compared to the original's $156,000,000, was recently released, is the problem with "1"...
DVD Verdict's showing this for a release on 02-15. What I don't understand's why Touchstone would allow Madacy to release this title, and what possible content would warrant 3 discs; all info appreciated. Bob Engleman
With the recent announcement of Class Action, and The Star Chamber, I only need the following to complete my transition from VHS: 1. Rio Conchos In addition, the below originally released on Playhouse/Key: 1.Count of Monte Cristo, The (Chamberlain) 2.Les Miserables (Jordan) 3.Man In...
My small collection consists of 288 movies, with 71 on tape. Of the remaining 217 titles, only 46 include commentaries; this being due to the age of the movie, and/or of the DVD itself. Unfortunately, I've only found 13 that were enjoyable, mostly due to poor speaking skills, and/or a restating...
As a tribute to 1 of our most popular presidents, and to rectify a situation that's abysmal, a restoration of " The Last Outpost" ( Cavalry Charge ) would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, the rights to this title were sold several yrs. ago to Ivy Video, which's released the worst DVD I've...
I haven't been able to find this disc locally, and the online merchants with whom I've checked aren't showing the info, nor have it available by phone; please help. Thank you. Bob Engleman
With today's announcement of "The 5th Musketeer, I only lack the below to complete my transition from VHS: 1.Beulah Land 2.Ivanhoe (Jas. Mason) 3.Karate Kid (OAR) 4.Major Dundee Bob Engleman
Why would Warner allow this title to enter the public domain? To my knowledge, it's the only Flynn film to slip away that he made under contract with WB. Bob Engleman
Any plans for the following: 1.Class Action 2.Rio Conchos 3.Star Chamber The below were released on Fox, Key, and Playhouse: 1.Count of Monte Cristo, The (Chamberlain) 2.L.A. Law 3.Les Miserables 4.Man in the Iron Mask, The (Chamberlain) 5.Quarterback Princess 6.Twilight's Last...
These titles are being released this Feb. in full screen. I checked the IMBd; it shows that each film was shot in a 1.37:1 negative ratio, and a 1.85:1 intended ratio. Does this mean that each was cropped top and bottom to give the appearance of wide screen? If not, please explain. Bob Engleman
