Has anyone had eyes-on experience with the 2017 Vizio P65 and the Sony X900E 4k sets? I'm circling around these two for my next one, and I'm having a hard time deciding. I've had really good luck with Sony products in general and their 1080p RPTVs in particular over the past several years, but...
Hey!
From what I understand, the Monster 200/300/400x Xbox A/V cables have a 1/8" jack that their TOSLINK dongle and cable attach to, correct?
For those of us who don't have TOSLINK connections -- could this 1/8" plug be hot-wired with an RCA adapter to provide a standard coax digital signal...
Of course, if you really want to go down the outboard-DAC road, the way to go is to build a system with MSB's MDP-3 decoder, which accepts DD & dts bitstreams and outputs 3 x 2-channel PCM digital outputs (L/R, SL/SR, C/Sub), which you could then run through three different outboard DACs...
I use a Parasound 1200-II (300w x 2, the model right before the 1500) for my mains (which are big) and a 1203 (200w x 3) for my center-surround speakers, which aren't that big.
I think the general consensus around here has been you can never have too much power in an amp!
Or, more...
John M,
That is a lot of equipment off one circuit, even if it is a 20A one.
If you have the $$$, Link Removed makes a unit called the Link Removed which has got to be one of the most overlooked items in higher-end HT.
Forget battery boxes with cables, conditioners, enhancers and the like...
Folks,
There was some discussion in another thread about DD receivers, but this is a more basic question:
Is all DISH Network audio encoded as DD, or is it MPEG, with DD on a few "blockbusters"?
Or, in other words, if I do actually get a receiver with a DD output, will it work for all the...
Carl,
Thanks for the reply. Checking outside today, I noticed that the grounding block (bar shaped connector with cables running through it???) is not, in fact, grounded to anything!
Would there be any other physical location where the entire system should be grounded (i.e. at the dish, under...
I am getting some lovely hum and transformer noise through my HT gear since we moved, and I've managed to trace it down to the coax input cable to my Dish Network receiver.
Does anyone have suggestions on how to get rid of this? I suppose I could try and get the installer back out again to...
Color isn't it...but perhaps it is paint related.
Did you go from semi-gloss to matte walls? I *suppose* that could make a difference in the overall character of the sound.
Otherwise, it must be an equipment issue.

Joseph,
That's pretty much what I thought...thanks for the update.
You know, I almost wish Pioneer (or someone) made HD-compatible 16:10.x TVs...it really is a good comprimise ratio between 4:3 and 16:9.
You could watch regular NTSC stuff with the full screen, and only have very very small...
Joseph,
Thanks for the tips, but I'm not sure I'm following you (not enough coffee today and all that.)
Are you saying that I should set my Sony S360 DVD for 16:9 output, and then use Full Cinema mode to de-squeeze the picture?
And in what way would my calibration be different for Full Cinema...
Hi there!
Does anyone out there own a mid-late 90s era Pioneer non-HD RPTV with a 16:10.x aspect ratio? I think they made 53" and 61" versions of this set (I have the 61".) I don't have the exact model number on me, but will post it later today...
What I wanted to find out is if it is...
Hello everyone!
This is a purely non-technical, fashion/decorating question that I thought belonged in here.
The room where I have my home theater set up has a set of windows on the end opposite the RPTV. There are three windows in the set, with a half-circle window over the middle one. The...
