So... I compared the new 4k with my Bluray. I have both ripped to hard drives and viewed it on my PC. I could immediately see lack of detail in the 4k compared to the Bluray, but of course my PC monitor doesn't show HDR very well. So I compared both on my projection setup and I was surprised...
I'm confused which version Robert watched... the review by Matt mentions a Criterion version from 2017 while Robert suggests there is a Warner version that doesn't appear to be on Amazon.
I've seen the recent digital version (projected) and it was abysmal. Very waxy to the point of distraction. I'm very surprised to hear the disc version is getting a positive reaction.
I appreciate your thoughts. I was thinking something similar with setting up a separate tone-mapping setting for this reason. I couldn't experiment with it last night as I had a guest, but I will going forward.
Watched His Girl Friday last night (for the first time). Exhausting affair! I was blown away by the frenetic pacing of this movie and the superlative performances from the cast. Impeccable and brilliant timing on the part of Grant and Russell and the writing is very clever. Wow. It's...
Watched this last night (for the first time) and loved the movie... but the ending was a little strange - very abrupt with no explanation. Was there footage lost/missing?
I spot checked some of the season 2 ones and they were all long, but thanks, that's good to know.
One attraction for me of these types of series is seeing some favorite actors in the guest roles.
While I remember Columbo being on TV and I'm sure I've watched some of it (more like it was on in the background) I don't think I've ever watched an episode. Last night, as a warmup to watching something else I was planning to watch, I chose the episode from the 2nd season with Leonard Nimoy...
Well in this case, that is not the reason (it was explained above). And while I'm sure it's possible that 8k would be required to do justice to certain films, I sincerely doubt it would be typical as many 4k releases don't improve on 2k versions as there simply isn't any more information to be...
I know nothing about this film. I'm having fun trying to guess (by the title) whether it's a drama, comedy, musical or all of the above. Must look it up...
So I took a look at my Titanic UHD. I'm disappointed because, projected on my screen, it has a very processed look to it. It just doesn't look natural.
I also looked at the streaming versions of The Abyss and True Lies. The Abyss looked similar to Titanic but it seems more obvious that...
I'm so sad about this release. I've NEVER seen the film. I don't know why, I just... haven't. I was excited to finally watch this with a nice film-like presentation but I have the UHD here unopened and I have no decided to return it because I don't want to feel like I'm supporting this type...
