This is my first time seeing Devil's Doorway. It has received universal praise, it's an excellent western. Audiences in 1950 must have found John Alton's noir photography to be a little strange in a western but it works well. The Blu-ray print/transfer is bright, if you view in a darkened room I...
The Blu-ray of the 1981 mini series looks excellent in comparison with the previous DVD. I believe I saw the 1960's movie on TV 30+ years ago & was unimpressed. The 2009 mini series is fun but difficult to find streaming & expensive on Blu-ray.
Hi Robert, if it's a PD stream 'they' bothered to get all the details correct, it's attributed to CEA Studios etc.
I was hoping for some StudioCanal scuttlebutt regarding the transfer! If not, I may gamble $4.
The DVD source was not in great shape, it may be StudioCanal were unhappy with the HD...
Hell Is A City in HD turned up on Amazon Prime Video, see link below. Does anyone know the provenance of the transfer?
I'm hoping StudioCanal supervised the transfer but decided not to release a Blu-ray (yet?).
It would be nice to retire my Anchor Bay DVD.
Cheers!

I rewatched The Departed Blu-ray this morning. For a VC1 low bit rate transfer, the picture quality is impressive when viewed on a 55" LG OLED. It has a gritty look, just like Boston, with very few compression artifacts (motion, black crush or macro blocking). Some interior scenes are a little...
I've contacted MUBI regarding provenance because there's a discrepancy between the subtitles offered on the Blu-rays & MUBI. I'll report back my findings.
Thanks Robert for your research. I did check ATV+, I saw MGM+, that put me off. I now see ATV+ has two versions available, I assume the version with the Flicker Alley cover is the UCLA version?
ATV+'s Too Late For Tears references MUBI & only one version is available, is it the UCLA version...
I first saw Woman On The Run on Prime 3-4 years ago, I believe it was the UCLA version, it looked good. It popped up again on Prime but this time a horrible colorized version. I searched many sources for the UCLA version & found it on YT but it suffers from the additional YT compression...
I just started watching Hamlet on Prime. The video looks like upscaled DVD, does anyone know if it looks better on other streaming channels?
Has there been any talk of a Blu-ray (Region A or B) or 4K?
Thanks!
The first Blu-ray was 1080i MPEG2, that put me off buying it. The second was 1080p AVC with improved picture quality, I must have missed that one & it's still available in Region B.
For this Sony are the subtitles synched well to the dialog?
There will be no 4K release because of director...
I have never seen this movie so was considering buying the DVD, as it's not available to stream. IMHO Warner transfers are usually close to the best they can be, so I was thrown by your comments, what did you not like about the DVD?
If you consider the DVD poor, unless new elements have been...
Just watched episode 7. A constellation is a static grouping of stars often used for navigation purposes. As far as I can tell that has nothing to do with this ATV+ story. They should have called this series Relativity, because that's what it's all about. Albert Einstein is rolling in his grave.
Extremely high production values & great Solaris like story but you have to catch EVERY nuance of the dialog to make sense of it, that is particularly difficult if you're hard of hearing & reading subtitles. This week's episode is a real humdinger!
Thanks Todd. I believe it unlikely Blu-rays will become available, most people want the extras disc & I'd want it too!
Plan B, still waiting for a rental on ATV+. I wish ATV+ would notify viewers when rentals become available?
I don't have a 4K player so only need the regular Blu-rays. What happens to returns with a faulty 4K disc, is anyone offering sets for resale minus 4K disc?
OK, if grain is completely decorrelated frame to frame, I understand how this could work. Pixels and/or groups of pixels are either static or have common velocities frame to frame, the grain does not, & that is used to define a true picture element vs grain. Does that mean a pixel compromising...
It's disappointing the streaming version doesn't match the disc version in the areas described, was it intentionally dumbed down? How about the regular Blu-ray, was that dumbed down? I don't have a 4K player for fear of another upgrade cycle (VHS, laserdisc, DVD, Blu-ray). I've just watched the...
I justified an ATV+ subscription when Netflix DVD closed because of it's original content & highest streaming quality (bit rates). The $5billion Netflix/WWE deal is an insult to regular subscribers. If WWE ever comes to Netflix (without it being a special subscription) I'll cancel Netflix. NFL...
Will there be ad & ad-free subscriptions? Makes you wish advertising funds would dry up?
I've used ad supported channels for years but ad frequency & duration is way up, so now I avoid them. If you can find something you like, The Roku Channel is still good & Peacock puts its ads up front, are...
Of course, Oppenheimer got all it deserved, it's as though the voters saw the extras disc & were impressed by the herculean effort just like me but why so little love for Napoleon? I thought it was tremendous. Was it historically accurate?
