5.1.2....so from further reading it sounds like dolby surround is the best choice then to utilize the height speakers? if its not a true atoms signal..like netflix or cable tv.

i ended up running everything thru hdmi 1 (non- arc) and running optical to receiver. Since the only thing i needed sound out from the tv was netflix/amazon. i leave HDR on hdmi 1 and it doesn't seem to mess with the picture at all for non HDR content

So obviously dolby atoms is the first choice. But say if I'm watching regular tv or netflix which gives a 5.1 signal. Which is the best choice dolby digital or dolby digital plus. The manual isn't clear which is the better choice.. see attached pic from manual

So a update went with the denon avr 3500x(2018) saved a bunch on older model. And lowered the surrounds(although i couldn't do much about how close they are to seating area). And got klipsch ceiling speakers. still working out the bugs

I upgraded my older Denon to a 3500x. Rf311 for fronts rc3ll center and Klipsch 2500 ceiling speakers and svs sub. I'm kinda stuck with my rear surrounds being rs-3ll. I have been reading that dipoles arent ideal for rear surrounds anymore. Will that sound horrible? Any thoughts?

The 2500 is 400(both are close to half off being last year's model) the only real difference is 3500 is 105 watts per channel the 2500 is 95 watts. The room is in the basement and very little light comes in thru it, and besides 90percent of the time it's night time when we use the room and it is a pitch black room with out any lights on

I don't really remember why I put the surrounds so close. I'm thinking it was because I was trying to keep them equal to the front speakers. Which I couldn't go farther.. since it's a basement that's finished the room with the tv isn't very deep. So the surrounds are as far back as they can go...

With the Onkyo I could use the rear center also I believe, and the ceiling speakers..8.1.2..i believe. I'm not real sharp with Atmos. In your opinion would the 7.1.2 using the Denon and eliminate the center rear be abetter choice?

Lol.. the plant was my wife and it was a battle I gave up.. sometimes you have to pick and choose. Not really sure of the quality of the speakers in the ceiling and the right one is a bit off for placement. But maybe move it over down the road. My budget is about 600.. the Denon is a 2018 model...
