I agree that they’re terrific but I would add the ‘74 The Great Gatsby, ‘79 Alien and all the wonderful Richard Amsel posters: Lucky Lady, Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile to that group.
I never thought this was a very good movie but at the time of its release it had a HUGE cultural impact. What young man didn’t want to look like Richard Gere in 1980? I sure did!
I didn’t care too much for this movie the first time I watched it on TCM because I really dislike war movies, but it must have been Robert Osborne’s favorite film because they played it constantly during his tenure there. I then watched it several times over the years and now have the highest...
I was disappointed with the clip included in my set. I really wanted something with Audrey Hepburn. Instead I got Rex Harrison and Wilfred Hyde-White at the ball. Oh well!!
I too still have this laserdisc set. It replaced the terrible first laserdisc version I bought where the film image was largely pink! I redeemed the coupon for the poster. It hung in my bedroom for years. I still have it.
I tried returning the first set because of the appalling color but they...
Seeing My Fair Lady in the theater when it first premiered remains one of the most memorable movie experiences of my childhood. I have to date watched it dozens of times on TV and disc and while it remains a favorite movie, watching it still takes me back to the memory of that first time. Mr...
This may be of interest to those interested in the restored Cleopatra.

When the movie was first announced they gave away posters and my brother brought home a copy. It was an EVENT MOVIE! I loved the poster so much I framed it and hung it up in my bedroom. I then went to the World Trade Center to watch them film the closing scenes. When it came out the picture...
I recall seeing that bone as well, but maybe it was just a hallucination we both had after watching 35 year old Karen Black play a teenager for two and a half hours.
Any artist who takes compensation for a commission is at the behest of the one paying the commission.
I worked as an artist my entire life. I was hired for my talent, my technical skills, my taste and my vision, but if any of those were in conflict with the one paying for my services it is my...
A cinematographer is hired on a film to fulfill the vision of a director, isn’t he? If the director chooses to change the look of the work the cinematographer has created for him at a later date, why is this such an issue? After all, it is the director who creates the vision, not the...
Years ago I spoke to a journalist who interviewed Joshua Logan. He claimed that when they were discussing South Pacific he asked about the colored effects. He was adamant Logan said that when he saw the colored filters in the final print, he felt that they were distracting and wanted to remove...
I always loved the sheer awfulness of this movie. At the time of its release I think it was quite popular despite the terrible reviews. It did cause a couple of ripples in the industry as I recall.
It took George Peppard down a couple of pegs who, as a graduate of the Actor’s Studio...
This film has looked so bad for so long on broadcast media I can only hope that this upgrade corrects that. It’s too clever a film to be relegated to the trash heap of faded, desaturated films so common of movies made during this period.
I have such fond memories associated with this version of A Christmas Carol. Because it was in the public domain, our local tv station played it on a loop on Christmas eve. We kept it on all night long as we prepared for Christmas dinner and family the next day.
I don’t know why anyone here...
I welcome this new release but I have to wonder if they can actually improve the look of it. I remember seeing this in the theater and it was very soft looking with a golden overall cast upon release. The illustrated new cover artwork is well meaning but awful compared to the original poster.
I don’t know if this has been posted before but for fans of the film there’s a web site devoted to the production history of How the West was Won.

You’re all absolutely right! Even though the film was removed from my library I was allowed to redownload the 4K without additional cost. That doesn’t change my feeling about the importance of physical media however.
By restoring the scenes that explain the real reason why the couple divorced that were cut at the last minute, the original film will finally have the weight the original release did not. I love it!
A couple of years ago I purchased East of Eden on iTunes. I watched it several times but hadn’t watched it for a few months. Yesterday, I went into my iTunes video library to see if it had been upgraded to 4K only to discover that it was gone. It was no longer available.
THAT is why physical...
