Would it be out of the realm of possibility if they just did a season or two of something the length of Dallas every quarter maybe? I’d love to get Dallas and ER on Blu-ray and would gladly buy them this way.
Excellent news all round. I’ll definitely be picking up all four classic movies.
My only slight disappointment is no Looney Tunes volume 4 which I was hoping for June so we’d be getting one every quarter but there’s not released shorts as special features on the films so I shouldn’t really...
Always great news to be getting more Crawford. I wonder why they’ve gone for a couple of Warner cartoons instead of some MGM ones? I wonder if it’s because the MGM library from that period hasn’t been upgraded to HD?
I could see Greed (and maybe The Wind) going to Criterion but I wholeheartedly agree with this. I loved The Big Parade and Our Dancing Daughters so want to see more silents from WAC.
True - I ordered this and 3 Godfathers from Moviezyng and neither have been dispatched yet.
I’m excited to see Cue Ball Cat in HD on Devil’s Doorway. I hope this means Tom and Jerry Volume 2 is coming soon.
They Drive By Night and 3 Godfathers haven’t been dispatched from Moviezygn and 3 Godfathers seems to have disappeared from my order. All very strange, but I’m sure it’ll right itself eventually.
I also took advantage of the sale getting:
Out of the Past
Song of the Thin Man
Dinner at Eight
Caged!
Neptunes Daughter
Spinout
Hey There, It’s Yogi Bear
The Long Long Trailer
Dance Fools, Dance
Wife Vs. Secretary
Dangerous When Wet
Double Trouble
Fu Manchu is the only one I’ll be getting straight away. Slightly disappointed it’s not been a massive classic MGM month but I know lots who will be very happy with Aprils picks.
I’ve seen it mentioned there’s only one colour cartoon directed by Clampett which hasn’t already been released in HD. As these discs are prioritising shorts which haven’t been released already that would account for his absence. Which is all the more reason to get some B&W Porky on the next...
The original few WAC releases had very little in the way of new special features (a habit which seems to follow RKO releases to this day) so I’m hopeful we may get some pre-made features at some point.
However if adding features reduced the number of shorts included then I’d pick shorts every...
This would actually be a great idea. Dumbo, Treasure Island, Old Yeller, Mary Poppins, Honey I Shrunk the Kids and Beauty and the Beast would make a great line up.
I’d previously listed some TV shows I’d love the archive to get to and completely forgot about The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (the original version obviously!). It still stands up today.
I’d really love a Blu-ray release of Family Ties. I’m kinda surprised they didn’t do it last year to tie in with the release of Still: A Michael J Fox Movie.
Someone over at the Blu-ray.com forum has noticed Curse of the Cat People appears to be out of print from scream factory. I wonder if this could be coming to WAC now instead.
If this deal does mean Sony releasing classics from the Fox vaults can they prioritise some with Tyrone Power. He’s far too handsome to be languishing in standard definition .
I’ll happily take whatever golden age movies WAC release. For instance, Westward the Women. I’d never heard of it. Took a punt and thank goodness I did, what a movie!
This months announcement hasn’t been a wash out either. Big movies from Bogart and Wayne. These are no C class pictures.
I...
It’s never going to happen but Criterion would be the best studio to release this. That way they can add special features for context and awareness. I love the film but I’d imagine most people would wonder what all the fuss was about if it ever did see the light of day.
Thad really knows his stuff so this review makes me excited for this even more.
Now we need more Tweety and Sylvester and B&W Porky on the next volumes.
