CDs are a little different from DVDs, but for sure, like you, I've had even better luck with them. Many of mine are 40 years old and still look and play like brand new.

    Warner Archive Announcements Thread

I'm not worried about this. The only discs I've ever had go bad on me are a handful from Warner, all pressed within a particular time frame at a particular plant. Nothing from any other company, and thankfully nothing else from Warner outside of those two parameters mentioned.

Press Release Warner Archive Collection Press Release: The Nun's Story (1959) (Blu-ray)

My pre-order was in as soon as the link went live! It sounds like this will be a huge upgrade over my old DVD.

Press Release Warner Archive Collection Press Release: The Rain People (1969) (Blu-ray)

Ron, thanks for the post! Small correction: The cast listed is for the Coppola film You're a Big Boy Now. For The Rain People it should read James Caan, Shirley Knight, and Robert Duvall.

Shout complete TV releases: What's next?

I hear you, but in my case, I'm wary of burned discs because, well, I've been burned by them in the past. I know that the technology has improved tremendously, and I also know it makes a big difference who's running things. My issues in the past were awhile back and involved companies that I now...

What have they done to Darby O Gill and the Little People?

We all have our own takes, and that's cool. When I'm reading others' reviews of discs, I always try to cast a wide net because different people pick up on different things. Then I filter those reviews through the lenses of what's most important to me and try to make the best decision as to...

What have they done to Darby O Gill and the Little People?

Well, my wife and I watched In Search of the Castaways last night, and I thought it looked great! It's a film with a lot of optical effects that rely on dupes, and so those shots are never going to look razor sharp. However, the regular footage sports fantastic detail--and the colors are right...

Shout complete TV releases: What's next?

Yep, that's right. I think a lot of people assume MOD means burned discs, but that's not the case at all--it's simply an economic model that makes sense in today's buying climate for home media. However, I didn't know Fox only issued pressed discs in their initial runs of MOD titles. That almost...

Shout complete TV releases: What's next?

From what I read (and there doesn't seem to be much out there), the Fox Boone set featured pressed discs, at least initially. I don't know if Amazon took over at a certain point with DVD-Rs or what. I didn't buy the set from Amazon but rather new on eBay, so it seems unlikely it would be an...

Shout complete TV releases: What's next?

I don't know--really having a hard time finding much info on this set. Production order would be fine with me as well, but all I read was that's it's not broadcast order.

Shout complete TV releases: What's next?

Question for anybody who can compare the Fox and Shout! Daniel Boone complete series releases. Surprisingly, I've been able to find few reviews of either set. What I've been able to piece together is this: The Fox set was produced on single-layer discs and are bare bones--no extras, evidently...

What have they done to Darby O Gill and the Little People?

I've been having a hard time finding reviews of the Blu-ray for this, though generally it sounds like it's a solid affair, and you seem to concur with this. It came up earlier in this thread that someone found it lacking. So I don't know. I'll be finding out soon, as it's on its way!

What have they done to Darby O Gill and the Little People?

Yep, that's a pretty good way to describe it. I'm not surprised prints had that beautiful rich Technicolor look since the Technicolor lab would have processed them and, as you note, the film was meticulously photographed by top people.

International Frank Herbert's Dune: Complete Collection (Blu-ray) Available for Preorder

I couldn't find the 4-disc set without swag on Amazon... However, I see there's a 2-disc set of both films for around $45, presumably without the extras found on the missing 2 discs.

What have they done to Darby O Gill and the Little People?

Agreed. This is one of the ones Disney did okay by.

What have they done to Darby O Gill and the Little People?

You mean the Blu-ray of Darby O'Gill? Yep, it's out of print now, like so many other classic Disney Movie Club Blu-rays that are now selling for $50 (or more) on the internet. But the DVD of that title is still readily available and cheap.

What have they done to Darby O Gill and the Little People?

It's too bad about this, because Disney can do a terrific job when they put their minds to it. My wife and I just watched 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea last night, and it looks spot on! Their Blu-rays of Pollyanna and Mary Poppins look great, too.

What have they done to Darby O Gill and the Little People?

There are a lot of versions of this film uploaded on YouTube, and it's hard to know what everyone's sources were. I did find a nice comparison between the 2004 HD master used for the DVD and the 2022 Blu-ray, and when you see it toggled back and forth like that, a couple more things become...

What have they done to Darby O Gill and the Little People?

I read the mixed reviews of the Blu-ray for this title, but I wanted to pick it up and judge it for myself. I watched it first without comparing it to the old DVD. (Now, I know DVDs are not the standard for comparison, but I'll get to my point with it eventually.) It was obvious the Blu-ray was...

Blu-ray Review Film Noir: The Dark Side of Cinema XVIII – Blu-ray Review

This sounds great, but for someone with increasingly limited space, I'm looking at the number of this set, and my eyes are glazing over a bit: 18. I definitely can't get them all, or even most. For anyone who's been following this series, is there one or two sets recommended well above the others?

    My Home Theater Page

A lot of us are hoping for this, but I haven't heard much of anything since the announcement. I'm not sure if anyone knows what Disney will do next in the physical media market. I'm not even sure Disney knows.

Press Release Criterion Press Release: Lone Star (1996) (4k UHD Combo)

I just knew my copy played for me on my region-free player, but yep, when I checked now, the cover does indeed indicate the disc is region free. Like you, I'm hoping Sony releasing City of Hope on Blu-ray will mean the other Sayles films they own will be soon following.

Press Release Criterion Press Release: Lone Star (1996) (4k UHD Combo)

For sure! I mean, where in the bleeding underworld is The Secret of Roan Inish on Blu? The DVD is ancient--if it were a car, in just one more year we could get historic license plates for it!

Though I'm a big A. Hepburn fan, I don't know anything about Green Mansions. As to Paris When It Sizzles, I know it generally doesn't get a lot of love, but I think it's an absolutely brilliant satire and funny as all get out! Audrey and Bill Holden camp it up perfectly!

Warner DVD's not working thread - watch to make sure they still play

I wasn't trying for snarky--sorry it came across that way. I actually appreciate your posts more than you know, as I, too, have suffered from failed discs. It's good to know there may be hope in getting these replaced outside of the long-shot of them being upgraded. My only experience with...
