So why would Dick say "perfectly framed" with no excess head room in this Academy transfer? I have no doubt you are correct, David - because I've seen the Academy transfers and they are screamingly obviously wrong. It's just funny that people see what they want to see.
Comanche Station - love the movie. As for the transfer, it's perhaps what was used for the 2008 DVD - it's good and color is nice but it's never quite sharp enough and detail isn't what it should be in 2016. Glad to have it, but hoping Sony revisits all these soon.
The German Blu doesn't have the dub, but of course it was dubbed, just like all the sword and sandal movies were - they were DESIGNED to be dubbed - how could they NOT be dubbed for heaven's sake? Most of these had American actors in them, French actors, Italian actors, German actors, all...
Thanks for your post. Just to clarify - it's not just the Beaver, it's a lot of reviewers on various sites. We've discussed it before and there's even a thread about it somewhere. For me personally, I really have no malice and am not trying to mock anyone (although I do think some of these...
I like the Beaver but how anyone could put any stock in either his caps or especially his comments on transfers is beyond me. I mean, here's what he wrote about Night of the Generals. I mean I just don't understand a word of it. What does looking a bit thick and heavy mean - does he mean that...
But, you know, it really couldn't. The film is essentially one long optical - there are a humungous number of them. The film has never looked amazing because of that. I had a 35mm print - very grainy, very soft during the opticals, and that's how it's always been. While I have no way of...
Exodus - looks great if you don't mind that it's not from a large format element and in the wrong aspect ratio. Certainly 1000% better than the non-anamorphic DVD of old, but this film deserves better, including a 5.1 stereo track.
