I wasn't even aware that this film's original ratio was in a scope format -- I always believed it to be the 1.85:1 as seen on HBO/Rysher's DVD. That's very interesting. I was thinking of upgrading to Kino's 4K version, but we only watch it around the holidays...

I have both The Rock Criterion Collection and Pearl Harbor Director's Cut DVDs, and both still hold up on a larger screen. I had the non-Criterion DVD of Armageddon, but because it was non-anamorphic, I upgraded it to the Blu-ray.

Before the Director's Cut came out, the film WAS available in the theatrical cut -- I owned it as a fullscreen DVD.
