The lack of IMAX is understandable, given the premium pricing, and I don't go to 3D showings or any of those other gimmicks. But thre three-tier pricing is a turn off; the theaters selected for each tier seem to depend on local ticket prices. New York State doesn't have a single theater in the...

I don't have an AMC nearby, so it's a moot point for me anyway. But it kind of sucks that because we pay higher ticket prices than everybody else, we're punished with higher subscription prices than everybody else.

I get the sense that they're counting on accruing the $9.95 monthly charges without most of the forcibly resubscribed users being aware that charges have resumed, and thus won't actually have to pay for movie tickets.

From what I understand, it restores the one movie a day feature of the original plan, but the "existing inventory" is whatever 4-5 less popular movies they happen to be covering at that point. So on paper, you could go every day, but in practice you'll probably be waiting a while once you've...

Apparently MoviePass is again uncancelling accounts unless you again affirmatively opt out by October 4th. Anybody who receives the latest email and doesn't opt out (again) will have a new recurring month charge of $9.95 on the credit card associated with their cancelled account starting October...

I had a hell of a time. First, the Cancel Subscription button was (deliberately?) hidden by the Android touch keyboard on the screen, and there was no way to click off of it. Finally I realized that if I went to another app and then back to MoviePass, the keyboard would disappear. Then, once I...

I would probably be more upset if I hadn't gone into it knowing that it was a disastrous business plan destined to fail. Once you accept that its core promise, that it could be a feasible long term service, was a lie, than everything that followed were just corollaries to the big lie. TL;DR The...

Since peak pricing was implemented into my account, I haven't used MoviePass once. When it was one free 2D regular screening a day, with no exclusions, I used it to see movies I wouldn't otherwise see in theaters. But now, even paying a third of list price is still an expense not worth incurring...

I think it was game over regardless of whether any competition entered the market. I just don't see this being the venture that ends the whole "we lose money on every sale, but make it up in volume" business strategy's perfect record of failure.

There's also the fact that MoviePass works at nearly every theater that accepts credit cards, while A-List only works at AMC theaters. The nearest one to where I'm sitting is a two hour drive away. So it doesn't matter how good the deal is if I'm not in a position to utilize it. It may be the...

You have to keep in mind that under the status quo, they were burning through money with every ticket sale, except for the cheapest areas of flyover country. The peak time surcharges just mean that they're burning through a few bucks less per ticket for those showtimes. It's a way of stretching...

In our theaters, there's the stadium seating with a bar in front of the front row that you can put your feet up on, and the whole thing is elevated so the front row is pointed straight at the screen. There are seats below that right in front of the screen if you want a neck cramp, but those...

Used MoviePass today to see The First Purge. It was definitely the most socially-conscious movie in the franchise, with the torture/gore porn toned down to a minimum. It takes place in 2020, judging by the New York State registration stickers on the car, so very near future. I'm not sure it...

Today I caught Hearts Beat Loud at the local arthouse theater. It was my first experience with MoviePass e-ticketing. Instead of buying the ticket using the MoviePass credit card, the app generates a QR code that the ticket ripper scans in lieu of a ticket. Movie was decent, but one I probably...

I apologize for taking things off topic, but when I was in NYC last month I was appalled at how bad the subway had gotten just in the couple years since I'd last been down there. At one point, we were sitting on a train for 40 minutes, doors open, because the signal system was malfunctioning and...

Before I saw it, I'd heard two opinions: either it was the most unnerving horror movies in years, or it was just awful. I definitely join you in the latter camp. Not scary at all, tonally all over the place, a plot that you pretty much see coming a mile away, and it just. wouldn't. end. Lots...

I kind of wish the limitation was just 30 movies a month, rather than one per day, since I sometimes like to do a double feature. But with evening tickets for a regular 2D show $13.70 and matinees up to $10.95, as long as I use it once each month I'm still coming out ahead of the game.

Action Point was my first MovePass experience. Activated the card earlier today using the app, and checked in without any problems at the theater. The ticket purchase went through smoothly at the kiosk. As for the movie itself? Let's just say I'm glad it was via MoviePass.

If you're in the Northeast or on the West Coast, you basically only have to go one movie a month to save money.
