I've never researched the Assignment Earth episode and didn't know Garr had an unpleasant experience. I'm really not too surprised as her character/role is little more than that of a comic relief bimbo. She was pretty much talked down to every time she was on screen and appears to be pretty...
I, too, was very concerned when I read of plans to "restore" the model as, like you, I know that "restoration" pretty much means the original will no longer *be* 100% original. It needs repairing but *not* repainting in the restoration sense. Underneath it's still the same, but... I'm one fan...
No perhaps... it *was* discovered and returned to Roddenberry's son:

That's because it was a backdoor pilot.
The script was co-written by Roddenberry and not a single network commissioned a pilot when that half-hour script was shopped. Roddenberry being Roddenberry just reworked it as a Star Trek episode - after all, he'd get more money that way.
Backdoor...
I never much cared for it as it's just another half-baked backdoor pilot episode. It feels like it was shoe-horned into the Star Trek universe because of using the original half-hour episode script (that was not picked up by any network - co-written by Rodenberry so...) as the basis. The TOS...
I first saw that uncut version when Roddenberry was lugging it around on the college circuit in the early-mid 70s. I don't recall a single thing he said - I was there solely to see the episode.
I also own a copy of that VHS with the color/bw recreation.
I *think* these have been mentioned before... all 3 are currently "clearance priced" at Walmart (link to item on image):
Classic Phaser - $14.36
Communicator - $12.02
Enterprise - $23.01
All 3 are from Playmobile and are the "light and sound" version of the replicas/toys. I've read good...
I bailed on the animated series after 3 or 4 episodes when it originally aired. Then and now, I have issues with the animation (Filmation in general - all their stuff looks cheap) and the "phoned in" sound of the majority of the dialog, especially from Shatner. In spite of that I own DVD & BR...
In general, actors *are* spoiled kids. It's somewhat in their DNA - that whole "Look at me! I'm the *best*!" attitude. It's part of what makes them good in the job.
I'm the oddball... I actually like "Spock's Brain." There are much worse episodes than that one and it also benefits from having Marj Dusay to look at.
Ms. Fontana may not have had internet but the time it takes light to go from the Sun to the Earth was a well known fact. We learned it in school. I call it "convenient story telling" and relying on the fact that many people just wouldn't catch the error or noticed any discrepancy in the speed...
Nope... Byrne's a good story teller but *all* the people in his artwork look the same (men and women). If the clothes weren't different you'd not know who was who and would have to rely on "bumps" to be able to tell the men from the women. I'm not much of a fan of his art.
I've never much cared for the Star Trek novelazations of the TOS series and, even as a kid, found them bland. They just didn't "read right" for me and didn't seem to have the same level of storytelling and interest as did the episodes. Today I'd call them poorly written "fan fiction" type...
I have a few minor issues with ST:III but, overall, think it's pretty good, easily the best of the "odd number" movies and deserving to be called an "even" number movie. I generally watch II, III, and IV back to back since they're a continuous story and watching III by itself just feels odd due...
Here's something interesting... a "virtual" look at several bridges for The Enterprise:
https://roddenberry.x.io/2265-uss-enterprise-ncc-1701/
The interface is a bit clunky and it's not as fully realized as I'd like but is kind of neat to peruse. You also can't "tour" a bridge in the sense I...
Kind of like those horrible clear boxes used with the original Voyager DVDs. Horrible things... and they seem to like those "disc pages held together with tape as hinges" affairs for many of the Trek releases...
They do - intentionally. It's a Tricorder case, though doesn't open like one. I like them though they *are* quick clunky and somewhat clumsy to deal with.
OK... I realize it's just a bit early - but my middle granddaughter and I have been reading old FoxTrot comics and this one came up:
She thought it was *very* funny once I explained about "red shirts"... :D
It's funny you should make that comment as I watched The Cage again last week and had a very similar thought. It looks and plays like a 50s era SF film. I noticed things I'd never really noticed before - the use of paper on clipboards for logs and memos instead of the tablets used in the...
I was *quite* excited about TNG and worked at a TV station when it began syndication. One of my weekly duties was to set up the "record calendar" for master control. That was a list of which shows to record each day and included the time the feed started, satellite information, and format (aka...
