Part of me wants to reply to that post... and clear up music issues... but we all know why certain songs were unable to be licensed and accept that it just couldn't be done. Shout's not to blame. That falls squarely on the people who hold the rights to the missing songs, which may not even be...
It's the safest. I'd somewhat trust Amazon (*not* a MP vendor but a "sold and shipped by Amazon" item) but would immediately open a Shout! set and check the discs just to be safe.
FWIW - *All* Shout! TVonDVD releases are on dual layer discs. If you get one that's not it's a counterfeit. There are some *very* good ones out there that absolutely look legit The only way to tell for sure is to check the disc capacity on a computer.
It was typically the small cheap speakers manufacturers used that were the issue. If they had they used decent size/quality speakers the cabinets would have been larger than most people would have accepted. Worst part is they also cheaped out on the speakers for TVs in those larger "console"...
Film chains could also have very good sound and broadcast TV audio is in the FM band, also with good fidelity and stability (a primary reason that frequency band was selected for TV broadcast). Early TV transmission from network to affiliates was typically by cable and/or microwave (depended on...
This series was shot and posted on video tape. At that time, network distribution was via satellite. When syndicated it was delivered via 3/4" U-Matic video tape.
Which begs the question: If they knew about the 2 different versions why didn't they put the alternate one on the set as a extra or allow the episode to be played, via seamless branching, as either version?
I'm thrilled with the set but that's a opportunity missed...
It's interesting in a "Time Capsule" sort of way. It's also why I never watch that type program. Poorly written with forced "comedy" and dialog that doesn't fit the characters or the people involved with presentation that screams "I only got one run through in the dress rehearsal we did...
Same here...
I got taken to task on another forum when I (gasp) admitted to semi-regular use of a VCR to make tapes of films that had never received a DVD release which I then copy to DVD. Lots of "why don't you use a DVR?" and/or "why bother? the quality's crap!" type stuff when I plainly...
Good luck with that. IMHO the Amazon "reviews" for DVD/BR product should *only* be about the technical aspects of the product and contents of a box set. I couldn't care less that you and/or your grandma *loves* a particular show unless I know your tastes (and that's not likely if you "review"...
OK... so just where were *you* when the writers didn't think of this significant information? :) Or *did* they know this and put it in to see if anyone in the viewing audience would catch the faux pas made by Fever. As the reaction of Johnny was total surprise *anyone* got the *song*, much...
I'm with you, Brian! I actually like that box with it's late 70s vibe! :)
Until you mentioned it I never paid attention to them doing that. The boxes seemed appropriate to the series but I never keyed in on how they are also appropriate to the years the series aired.
But you know... it really...
Brian, WOW! What a incredible job and service you've performed! Thank you for your hard work in compiling such a comprehensive listing as it makes *all* the difference! I can safely keep my pre-order in place knowing I'll soon be able to view WKRP almost as if I were watching the original...
