Randall, while I understand people's strong attachment to Band of Brothers (and I include myself in that group), I concur with you that The Pacific is far from a lesser series than Band of Brothers. The combat scenes in The Pacific are intense as are the depictions of the effects Shell Shock...
Randall, I purchased The Baron Complete Series DVD release a few years back as a blind buy and I thoroughly enjoyed the series. It's a fitting companion on my shelves for my complete series purchases of The Saint and Danger Man/Secret Agent and my Emma Peel Avengers set.
Band of Brothers truly is an exceptional series on so many levels: writing, acting, directing, cinematography, etc. It's been a few years since I watched it for the first time and I forgot how emotionally gripping the episodes are. It is certainly among the best ever television series. I'm sure...
I recently purchased the combined Band of Brothers/The Pacific complete series release from Gruv.com for a very reasonable sale price and started rewatching Band of Brothers for the second time. Once I'm done rewatching Band of Brothers, I will start on The Pacific which will be my first time...
Randall:
Seeing Tom Tryon in the Dr. Kildare episode you reviewed made me think it's too bad Disney never released a complete series DVD release of all 17 episodes of Texas John Slaughter (I believe some episodes were released on VHS but nothing on DVD)...among many other Disney anthology...
Not on DVD or Blu-rsay, but someone has posted all 11 episodes of Cliffhangers! from 1979 on YouTube: Cliffhangers! (1979)
I'm loving seeing these episodes again! Too bad this series never got a DVD release.
Jeff:
I would love to get my hands on a complete series release of The Adventures of the Scarlet Pimpernel. Is the Network release region free or region 2?
Sean
I'm a big fan of Cornel Wilde and would love to see Paramount's Omar Khayyam from 1956 which starred him, Debra Paget, Michael Rennie, and Yma Sumac, among many others in its great cast, released in Region 1 on DVD and Blu-ray.
Jeff:
No apology necessary; Sean or Darby is just fine. Randall is one of our resident classic tv scholars here on HTF and has introduced me to many a great series. He had indeed attested many times to the quality of those Region 2 Alfred Hitchcock Presents and The Afred Hitchcok Hour sets...
Thanks, Jeff. I believe the last 14 episodes of The Adventures of Sir Lancelot were filmed in color. Region-free is definitiely in my future not only to access those great Region 2 Network sets but also Season 7 of Alfred Hitchcock Presents and all three seasons of The Alfred Hitchcock Hour.
Jeff:
I'm a huge fan of all things Scarlet Pimpernel (books, films, tv series, etc.) as well as the early ITC television series such as The Adventures of Robin Hood, The Adventures of Lancelot, The Adventures of William Tell, and The Buccaneers and their later series such as The Prisoner...
I second that emotion, Jeff. Randall is an outstanding resource and resident scholar on classic television here on HTF and his posts are always enlightening.
All this chatter about the spooky Wild Wild West and Thriller episodes is making me break out my DVD sets of both shows and give those episodes a spin again!
There is also a bit goofy but nonetheless enjoyable "haunted house" episode in the Daniel Boone series called "The Inheritance" from...
Bryan:
Any additional screencaps of the actress in the black outfit would be most welcome in this forum
The actress' name is Laura Kamins by the way.
Jeff:
I had not heard of the Children of the Stones tv series until I read your post and now I am trying to find a reasonably priced copy of the complete series region 1 release from Acorn Media on Ebay. Thank you for posting the info about the series.
Sean
Steve:
I am not aware of any differences between the 4 individual season sets and the complete series set (the complete series set is just the 4 individual season sets housed in a cardboard box).
Steve:
You should definitely get RLJ's complete series release of Naked City. Along with The Defenders and Route 66, it is among my top three favorite television series.
Kolchak: The Night Stalker on single-sided discs.
Alfred Hitchcock Presents Season 6 on pressed discs.
Daniel Boone Season Two Collector's Edition from Shout.
