Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I was born at the end of '61. So by the time I was actively watching TV, the conversion to color was complete. All my evening viewing was in color. However, (at least until I was a teen), most of my daytime/weekend viewing was in B&W. I actually think the hybrid shows shaped my viewing...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

To be fair, Gary was saying he wouldn't buy any post 1970 titles on DVD, so that was what I was questioning (not realizing he already had several on DVD and he really meant any more). I was not referring to upgrading to Blu-Ray, which is a different discussion. And in my opinion Remington...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Neil Brock's other thread about the end of TV on DVD is having recent discussions. This particular "b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end" has been slowly active for over TEN YEARS now. So, are we 'turtle' slow, or 'snail' slow, or 'molasses' slow, or 'glacial' slow?

I went into Amazon US, and was able to add it to my cart, and would have been able to order it. Not sure what issues you are seeing.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I don’t think anyone is preferring anything. The choice isn’t between edited and uncut. The choice is between edited and nothing. If you are willing to not watch Steve, Mike/Robbie/Chip, and Bub, then hold out for something that ain’t gonna show up.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Can you please clarify this statement? I understand the ‘not remastered’ part, but from the way it’s worded, I can’t tell if it has the original music or not

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Just an FYI, What's My Line and I've Got A Secret return to GSN for a week - December 15-19 2am CST. My schedule doesn't go beyond that, so I can't tell if it might be two weeks.

Slightly off-topicGame Show Network will be showing What's My Line starting the night of Dec 17th (actually early morning of the 18th).I imagine this is their annual two weeks worth of episodes. Still, one of my favorite shows, so always welcome.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I know that the Shout purchase of Timeless has been mentioned many times, usually with some implication that it is to blame for the current low output. But, given the current market, the available remaining content, and status of the Timeless company at the time, was it really a factor? Would...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Kind of off-topic (i.e. not release related). But the Game Show Network (at least for the next two weeks) is showing What's My Line and I've Got A Secret in the wee hours (2am/2:30am CST) Monday through Friday. What's My Line is one of my favorite shows of all time (after Doctor Who...

Doctor Who will have 5 B&W stories coming out in the next several months - including two stories that had been 'lost' for the past 45 years.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Now this isn't to say that I don't buy TV shows or Movies, I have a couple of dozen shows, and several hundred movies. I merely meant that I don't 'blind-buy' things. I'd seen everything I'd purchased. And I have watched and re-watched all the movies and most of the TV shows several...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I've been reading through the last page or two of posts. Here are my own take.I can understand the desire to sample/ watch unknown shows. What I don't understand (for myself) is 'purchasing' these shows. I'm more than willing to give up my time to a blind-viewing (as contradictory as that...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

What's interesting is, depending on how the kinescope was made, it might be possible to restore the color. The BBC stumbled upon this a few years ago. What they thought was video noise or specks was actually part of the color signal. They've been able to restore several episodes of Doctor Who...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I've noticed plots being re-used when their story came from another source - such as a novel or film. For example (and this doesn't specifically relate to the B&W era, which I'm not that up on), there is a Rockford Files plot that was used by both Simon & Simon and Magnum P.I. All three...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

While not completely on topic, unfortunately in the Chicago area, ATT UVerse has lost the rights to air MeTV (and its sister stations). Hopefully, this is only temporary, but it cuts my B&W viewing by quite a lot. (also 60s/70s/80s viewing). Both sides are either not commenting, or pointing...

You neglected to mention game shows. I would love to see What's My Line released. Sure its 17 years of broadcast and about 850 episodes, but I can dream. I'm sure other people have their favorite game shows too (even the 'rigged' ones) David

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Several other posters have supplied reasonable answers to this question. I also have a glass half-full theory. According to some of the previous posts, Timeless was primarily a one-man operation (I don't mean only one employee, but one guiding hand) and everything it did was because of the...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

My biggie of B&W TV isn't likely to make it to DVD - especially not a full run, considering there are over 800 episodes. I would love to have What's My Line in my collection. David

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Well, ALL films and TV shows have some demand. There isn't a work of art created that doesn't have some type of fan base, some people who would like to see it again, like to own it in some fashion. It was my understanding that the WAC was designed to fill the need of the 'small demand'...
