Another 180C and it will catch fire.

Like anyone couldn't see the death of Moviepass coming with such a dumbass business model.

AMC A-List & other theater subscriptions

I don't think Movie Pass is similar to Netflix or Amazon in any way other than to lose copious amounts of money up front with the idea of making it back later. Netflix and Amazon were and are competitors to traditional services in their sectors. Amazon engaged in predatory business practices to...

I also would have to question the business acumen of a CEO who would try to compare MP to Amazon or NetFlix. It seems to show a lack of understanding of the fundamental difference between his company and companies like the ones he using for comparison.

AMC A-List & other theater subscriptions

Blocking use at certain theatres, dictating which movies are eligible for purchase and aggressively canceling subscribers accounts just seem like signs of desperation. What is even worse for them is that, under their model, signs of financial distress are an incentive for their subscribers to up...

I wasn't really complaining just making some observations about an insane business model. However, you are right. it's not like I'm going to lose money when this scheme collapses since I'm not a shareholder in Helios and Matheson Analytics; the main stakeholder in Movie Pass. it was kind of...

So what you are saying is that I shouldn't have an opinion or concern about anything in this world unless it directly affects me? I'll keep that in mind. However, to answer your question, the world isn't insular anymore. Financial institutions and money are international in scope. I have no idea...

AMC A-List & other theater subscriptions

To be honest, I don't know if the market here would be large enough to sustain something like this; although, I suppose the idea of being able to see a hundred dollars worth of movies a month for 10 bucks would probably be attractive even to people who normally might not go to a movie theatre.

Not yet that I can see; however, it isn't inconceivable that it could expand to the Canadian market, assuming it doesn't go under first in your country. Apparently, one of the principles in this biz was a co-founder of NetFlix, so maybe he knows something I don't.

I can't be expected to answer that question; however, you can't seriously think the company and its founders are funding their operations entirely with their own money? IIRC, these guys were talking at least a two or three year subsidization window which means they have to have been able to...

AMC A-List & other theater subscriptions

I care that some moronic banks and/or financial institutions have lent money to a business with an insane model and, when it goes broke, everybody who uses those institutions will pay for their stupidity in the form of higher bank and or management fees. The money to cover their losses always...

AMC A-List & other theater subscriptions

People are getting off the couch for this thing because they know it can't last. The business model is unsustainable.

Now people aren't supposed to talk in ticket and concession lines? Really?

AMC A-List & other theater subscriptions

Thanks for digging into that Josh. Like I said, it didn't add up and your research shows why. It is unsustainable. They are going to use their own money and then turn the costs over to the the theatres based on a point-of-no-return business model. Good luck with that. The theatres are still...

AMC A-List & other theater subscriptions

How would you be able to use this service at AMC theatres if they are fighting it? You would think that the service would require an agreement with the theatre chain for it to be valid. How do they make money at 10 dollars a month for a movie a day when the average ticket price per film is 10...
