Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Each of the Philadelphia independents was unique: Channel 17 (The Great entertainer) ran the Phillies games with the great Harry Kalas and had the best kids shows : Ultra Man, Spider Man, Speed Racer, Space Giants, Soupy Sales.... and they were the only ones that showed Voyage To The Bottom Of...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Grew up on a steady diet of the Phily indies: Channel 29, 17, and 48 (now defunct). Always though channel 48 ran the rarer stuff. Only place in our market we could watch McHale's Navy in the mid to late 70's.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Honestly Randy we will probably never know which answer is correct although I suspect it's a hybrid of both....

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Hey Randy, I know in the past you and I have disagreed somewhat on this issue. I guess my root point is that even though I acknowledge that clearance costs can be very pricey and the sales potential must live up to the cost paid for clearances, I sometimes wonder if WA somewhat embellishes that...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

So EVERY major show WB has left has so many clearance issues that they are too expensive to put out. Multi billion dollar company? Just not buying it folks. I'm sure there's truth in it.... But way overblown

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Sad but true. So much great stuff still out there. Damn shame... And you can add the late 60s and 70s to the list of stuff that is pretty much dead now too.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Love to see Richard Diamond put out, along with a pre Mannix Conners in Tightrope as well, but as time goes on, the possibility of seeing these two great b/w series put out is dwindling more and more.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I agree with Neil. People think I bash the western releases on here but It's simply a matter of finding many of the hour long ones boring. Wagon Train IMO is one of the most boring successful shows of that time. The half hour westerns are far better. If they would have left Gunsmoke at a half...

Still glad to see it. Hope we get at least 2 seasons worth.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Hoping this isn't a one and done release. Shout does have a rather "uneven" record with completing shows to put it mildly. Sorry, but the Ironside thing still leaves a bad taste in my mouth, especially when they lied outright to me when I asked them about it.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Hey Randy, That's why I said, as an outsider I don't know all the inner workings of this stuff so I kind of just rely on common sense (a very old forgotten about song being much easier and inexpensive to clear than a rock classic) but as we all know when it comes to the business world, I guess...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I truly believe that despite their ambitious plan of releasing everything from their library, WA is winding down along along with everybody else with regards to the vintage stuff. I think most of the stuff they could clear fairly easily has been put out now and whats left are either short lived...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

My guess unfortunately would be yes. WA was the last man standing with this stuff but now it appears even they want to focus on late 80s early 90s junk.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

It's terrible. Only three previously unreleased classic releases scheduled between now and the end of March. Nothing in February and Bold Ones, Death Valley Days, and CHIPS in March. For us vintage fans, this hobby is really dying fast. P.S. - I refuse to count Family Matters on principle.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Would it kill these distributors to put out some of the great unreleased stuff instead of re-releasing this stuff that has already been out ad nauseum. Every time I look at the news it's the same drill. Breaking news: The I Love Lucy re-re-re mastered ultra mega box set or Mill Creek presents...

Also makes me wonder what kind of good b/w rare non western stuff Timeless could have eventually come out with had they not been "merged" with Shout and effectively been defunct.

Although I have never seen it (and I'm sure no release will be forthcoming) in an ideal world Id love to see a release of the show Brenner. I always loved Ed Binns in guest appearances (some great lines in 12 Angry Men) and would like to get a look at what he does with a lead role. Premise...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

As most of you know, I'm not a huge western fan but one I would really like to see released is Trackdown. Its a CBS property and with all the lesser known westerns that have come out, really shocked a semi well known show like this wasn't released already. Also on the b/w front, Richard...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Like to get a chance to see the full season of Many Happy Returns myself. I have a couple of pretty poor quality eps on VHS but that's it. Although the concept of eternal second (or third banana) John McGiver play a leading role doesn't make for the most exciting show based on what I've seen...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Gary, the only things I've heard that are the slightest bit concrete is Warner stating that they plan to complete Lawman and the ongoing rumor that they will be doing Colt 45. There's the once a year Rifleman season sets. But that's about it. I know what you mean. It is sad. I'm come to the...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

As I've said before, if this is true, I really don't get Shout's rationale. The two companies were releasing almost nothing even close to similar. Totally different demographic. Timeless was almost exclusively Westerns with a few early 60's dramas sprinkled in while Shout was doing various...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

To my knowledge, they have released nothing pre 70's. The closest they got was Mod Squad (started 1968) but they started where CBC left off (Seasons 3,4,and 5) which were into the 70's. They have never shown much an interest in the pre 70's stuff, let along b/w stuff.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Having a large VHS collection is wonderful, but sometimes it's not the blessing it appears to me. I recorded TV episodes off air since 84 and started trading/buying tapes from other collectors shortly thereafter to get the rarer shows from other markets or 16mm transfers, etc. While I love my...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I think the WA is about all we will see at this point. The completion of Lawman is about the only virtual lock at this point although I've heard the rumors about Colt 45 as well. I'm also hoping for some nice surprises but I just don't see it. I have about given up hope on the WA detective...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I know you meant this as a joke but I sometimes wonder if they aren't holding back on releasing some of these classic shows due to this ridiculous overblown PC stuff. Not all racism/sexism/misogny etc is so obvious as something like Amos and Andy and perhaps some of these distributors are...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Like their predecessor Nick-At-Nite, TV land is a joke. Don't even bother checking their schedule anymore. I vividly remember running my VCR non-stop the first few months they were on the air but that didn't last too long. Heck when I think back to the programming that was on Fx when they first...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Truthfully, I do get embarrassed time to time for complaining about releases. Honestly, in one form or another, I have copies of everything I really want. Sure, I would love to have upgrades on some, but I can still pull the stuff off the shelves and watch it any time.
