Actually, I looked up the old TCM/Fathom 2018 thread, and found that the 2019 titles were announced on December 5, 2018. I posted them in that thread before this one got started. So if they keep to the same pattern, we should be hearing about 2020 any day now.
Waiting until January would be...
Especially if they are going to have any screenings in January, isn't it about time to announce next year's TCM/Fathom lineup? Does anyone remember when they announced what the 2019 lineup was?
Not Fathom, but my local arthouse had To Kill A Mockingbird today for Father's Day (which I missed when Fathom had it a few months ago because I was otherwise occupied that day.) So I made room for it today. It was a deeply engaged sellout crowd and was presented on their biggest screen, so it...
Absolutely. I wasn't meaning to criticize Fathom for doing what they're doing. I've gone to their screenings in the past when they are the only ones showing that particular film.
I just think that in this particular case, here, in this specific circumstance, where we have the choice between...
Good point.
The two theaters (the Cinemark which does Fathom shows, and the arthouse which does its own thing) are about five minutes apart by car. I would hope most people know that they're both there, but if there is anyone who doesn't, they're welcome to pay more money for Fathom's inferior...
My local arthouse (the only theater within 2 hours of here that can screen 70mm) just booked Lawrence of Arabia in 70mm for two shows in June. This will be on their largest screen and presented properly. If I went to see it in September at the Fathom screening, it would be in on a smaller...
Now that is how you price a return engagement of an older film. Fair and reasonable and taking into account that it is an older title that is widely available on disc and streaming and cable. I don't have a Regal near me, but good for them.
@Wayne_j : For you, that would be a better deal then. But here, a matinee ticket is $8.15 including tax. The Fathom tickets work out to $13.59 with tax, so that's a $5.44 increase over the standard ticket cost. It used to be even more until the theater recently raised their ticket prices...
Not TCM, but the Fathom website now has listings for the original four Batman films from Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher being screened in May. This is presumably for Batman's 80th anniversary.
The problem is that all of them are priced as events at $12.50 apiece + tax where applicable, which...
Gone With the Wind broke Fathom's gross record for a classic film, which was set by The Wizard of Oz earlier this year:

That's odd. I wonder why. (I'm not questioning your account -- just wondering what the cause would be. Because the presentation was digital, theoretically they should be the same.) I didn't go to this one so I have no frame of personal reference.
My theater which charged regular admission prices for The Wizard of Oz is charging Fathom prices (+$5.71 above the cost of a regular ticket) higher than a normal ticket) for Gone With the Wind this weekend. That's a deal-breaker to me, so I'm out for this one.
Also:
I suspect this has to do...
I might have if I had been free, but I was seeing the Broadway tour of Aladdin at that time, and it wasn't even a contest as to which one of those was more important. I also have a time conflict with the weekend showing of To Kill a Mockingbird so won't be doing that one either.
It doesn't...
The Wizard of Oz had its final Fathom screening last night, so total grosses for the entire engagement are now in and they are $2 million, which Fathom says is a record for one of their re-releases.

Box Office Mojo is now reporting grosses on Fathom Events titles. Therefore, we know that The Wizard of Oz made $1.2 million on Sunday from 408 theaters

Considering it only played twice here (and presumably similarly...
On Facebook, Fathom says, "Due to popular demand, two additional encore dates have been added to The Wizard of Oz 80th Anniversary cinema event. Grab your ruby slippers and get to the cinemas February 3 and 5!"
Honestly, this seems like a title that WB could have put out into general re-release...
Interesting. My arthouse masks everything properly, but my Cinemark has 1.85:1 screens and never does, and they don't get the same films. So my choice is to go to the Cinemark and see 2.35:1 films letterboxed or not see them at all.
The pre-show listings of the other Fathom titles for this...
Does your multiplex mask anything For the past few years, my Cinemark just letterboxes anything that isn't 1.85:1. It's annoying, but I'm not going to stop going there. The Wizard of Oz was pillarboxed, as I expected it to be, and it was wonderful to see it on a big screen with an audience...
Thank you @Wayne_j and @Tino for reporting the potential sellout-level of your screenings for Oz. My local Cinemark is not reserved seating, but none of the TCM films that I've attended here over the past few years have ever gotten even close to sold out before, so I didn't really consider that...
