Not that anyone is waiting around breathlessly for an update on this, but I'm happy to say it's been a week and the old receiver was clearly the problem. The new receiver not only works perfectly, it produces better sound than the old one. So all is well again.

Well, all signs seemed to indicate the problem was with my old receiver, so I bought a new one. It's only been two days now, but so far, no issues whatsoever! Let's hope that holds and the problem is solved! THANKS to all who pitched in with helpful comments and suggestions!
