A couple of David and Rick's children are shown at least once, briefly, in an epilogue added to the end of the re-broadcast version of "The Busy Christmas." Rick sings "The Christmas Song" while we get brief shots of Kris holding baby Tracy and David and June with their son Danny.
Today (March 20th) is the great Ozzie Nelson's birthday. He was obviously a multi-talented man, both in front of and behind the camera. MPI Home Video's release of all 14 seasons of The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet on DVD has been a real high point of my recent classic TV viewing (and...
Thanks for sharing that video, Mark! A cute scene. I think there must also be a few more minutes of dialogue to close out the story that were also cut from this episode, as the main story - of David not getting to spend any time alone with the beautiful Carol Morris (who was actually crowned...
I don't know the answer to your music question, Lou, sorry...but I remember being annoyed when viewing "A Date with Miss Universe" that it was the syndicated version, as the actual episode story was really hacked up to make room for not just one, but two song performances by Rick. Seems like...
Sampled a few episodes from my recently-received S11 and S12 sets. Enjoyed all of them (like Gary OS promised me a year or so ago, the show still remains quite funny and always charming, even in these later seasons), but I especially got a kick out of S12's “David and the Mermaid.”
David has...
Great minds think alike, Neal...I also watched this episode earlier this week - though via the MPI S7 DVD set. It was a fun one, and I was impressed with Rick's horseriding skills. As Neal captured in the third video clip above, he (and other cast members, with even David joining in) sings...
Just received my copies of S9 and S10 here in Japan yesterday. Was spot-checking the discs, chose the episode "Rick, the Milkman" based on its amusing title, and immediately got sucked in. It’s a real gem, delightful from start to finish, and looks crystal clear on MPI's S10 set.
Rick and Wally...
Great stuff, Neal! Sally Fraser was also in the "David's Birthday" episode I mentioned upthread, though as a different, and slightly more demure, young lady interested in David. According to the IMDB, she returns for a third and final time in S3 in "A Matter of Principle," playing the same...
I'm sure this has been noted further upthread, but I recently watched the season 2 episode "David's Birthday" (yes, I'm way behind most members here in my watch through of the series) and the episode on MPI's DVD set is the re-broadcast version (seemingly from 1960), but is not noted as such on...
Just checked Robert and the promo clip at the end of the MPI S2 set on "The Party" is the one with just the two boys...and it's for Peter Paul Almond Joy, not Mounds.
Oh, that's an entirely different Mounds promo than I remember. The one I saw has Rick doing his homework when David walks in and asks to have some of his Mounds bar. I may be misremembering which episode it was on, though.
Thanks for posting that clip above, Robert!
I'm pretty sure that tag promo is a whittled down version on the DVD, Robert. The scene I remember only has the two boys, no Ozzie. Will try and double-check it later.
Just watched this episode and was wondering the same thing. Looked online, though, and couldn't find the original version of "The Party" in the usual places. Only the rebroadcast version with Ricky's song in place of the usual brief epilogue scene seems to be available. Still, the Ozzie "face...
Thanks very much for posting that interview, Bob! It was very interesting. Ozzie comes across - no surprise - as a very intelligent, articulate guy. And he also seemed very down to earth and humble. Sad to realize that he'd pass away the very next year after this interview was recorded.
Has...
Wow, Bob, you've already finished S5...and here I am, still waiting for my S5 and S6 DVDs to arrive in Osaka! It's OK though...the delay gave me time to (finally) complete watching all of S1.
Great stuff up above about Don DeFore, guys. Thanks for posting! Thorny's a great foil for Oz...gonna...
Just watched "The Traffic Signal" myself today, Timothy, and agree that the audio was much more muffled than has been usual for the episodes on these MPI sets. Needed to turn on the subtitles to catch all of the dialogue in this one
Speaking of, the subs are a very welcome addition to these...
Good stuff, Bob - thanks for sharing the cover images for S5 and 6!
Just pre-ordered S3 and S4. They're still showing a release date of July 26 on Amazon. Can't access Bull Moose from over here in Japan for some reason (their website refuses to load...maybe some sort of region blocking? Can't...
I sure hope so! I originally thought I'd be fine stopping after S7 or so, but after watching a few more episodes from S9, have come around to wanting all 14 seasons. The show seems to stay strong throughout at least most of its run. Really looking forward to getting my hands on these first two...
I'm with you guys. The episodes do look beautifully restored, but the asking price is way too high. I'd be willing to drop $200 on a complete series set...or even possibly, a complete S1-7 set...but not for a random supposedly-curated sampler. If this ends up being all there is, then I will wait...
The video quality on those Shout Factory releases is quite good, but all the episodes are cut syndication prints, alas, so you're instincts were correct in this case, Neal.
Good discussion, guys! Just wanted to chime in and let Gary OS know that I followed Josh's lead and ordered The Best of the Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet set from Shout Factory. It'll be a while before I can get my hands on it, but definitely looking forward to getting more acquainted with the...
I've never seen Ozzie & Harriet (I know, I know...what can I say? I'm late to join the classic era sitcom party, always being more of a drama guy), but after all the championing of the series here, from Gary, Glenn and others whose opinion I respect, I plan on picking up that Shout Factory "Best...
