Home video layoffs and consolidation was already in progress prior to the pandemic, so they’re really getting hit hard on both ends. When your industry goes from grossing $15 billion a year to $3 billion a year and dropping in under a decade, it’s never a good sign unfortunately.
That may seem arbitrary but there is a reason for it. Those third party sellers are buying unsold inventory from studio/retailer liquidators for pennies on the dollar, with the stock sold “as is”. The remedy there is to reach out to the third party seller for a replacement or refund.
Warner will replace discs if they’re in print and you can prove you have it - a photo of the disc has always been fine from my end.
What they will not do is issue cash refunds for discs that they didn’t sell.
They’re not saying they won’t replace a ten year old disc you got at Best Buy...
I started buying WB MOD discs when they opened shop in 2009. I recently ripped my entire DVD collection to a home theater PC and in that process I can tell you I had multiple failures for pressed discs regardless of studio or manufacturer, and zero instances of failures for burned discs.
