Stopped by my store tonight. Signs were up and they had a promo display by the entrance to the media area. Ended up with five titles: Being John Malkovich Female Trouble Rebecca Kiss Me Deadly The In-Laws

Yep, sounds like they're not even trying anymore, unless it's just a handful of stores that are poorly managed. But there's nothing on the front page of the web site either. You have to dig to find it.

And some, even though members of the rewards program, get very few coupons at all. The only coupons I ever get are maybe once or twice a year in the mail. I have never received any email coupons. I've been a rewards member for 3-4 years.

Finally made it to the store today. Picked up The Awful Truth, A Matter of Life & Death, and the Dietrich & Von Sternberg in Hollywood set. Also hoped to find the Guillermo del Toro trilogy on blu, but they only had the DVD set. Oh well, something for the next sale. And it's great to have the...

You should get the extra discount if you buy in-store as a rewards member.

At the store in Burlington visited on Father's Day, there was no clerk, just the sign (also first time I've seen this), but the sensors still go crazy anytime someone walks in or out of that section with a disc.

The inconsistency between stores is also a huge turn-off (and soured me on Best Buy coupons years ago because of the same inconsistency). There should be one clear policy from the central office, not each manager deciding in each store what is accepted and what is not. In the Internet age, it...

Thanks for the info, but I check my junk mail folder fairly regularly for "good" messages and haven't seen any BN emails in there.

No. I've just presumed that I probably don't shop there often enough that I'm not as "important" as other customers. It's probably a cyclical relationship. I don't shop there often because I don't get the offers. I probably don't get the offers because I don't shop there often.

I agree. I got a membership last year for the first time in a while. I think I've received two coupon mailers, and maybe one email coupon in the entire past year. I only get to their actual store about 3-4 times a year. So I don't think it's worth renewing. I get more coupons in this thread...

I'm not sure those are working, either, as I used one yesterday in-store to buy a book and it seems like she had to do some sort of special override, as scanning the coupon just resulted in a loud, angry BEEP.

If all you buy from BN is Criterions, then you probably get a good deal.

Sad, and just serves to piss of their potential customers. Even with 25% off, many of the prices still ended up higher than Amazon. They need coupons at the 20-25% level just to approach competitive pricing. Less than that is just not worth it, and customers will shop elsewhere.

Sounds like B&N is moving closer to Best Buy in that from store to store you never know how they'll interpret company policies regarding sales and/or coupons. I went through several of those fiascos at BB, so I've mostly stopped shopping there. Amazon gets most of my business now.

Their website is offline for "maintenance." Guess they don't want to make too many deals.

B&N seems to be pulling out all the stops this year. Lots of sales, coupons, and I've never seen them advertise on TV before, but their Jack McBrayer ad is played about every 20 minutes every night in prime time. If they have a disappointing sales season, I wonder if we'll be hearing...

Sounds just like what usually happens at Best Buy. Depending on the store, staff, and seemingly time of day, almost anything can happen when you try and use a coupon or discount. There's no rhyme or reason about what they'll honor, or how a discount will apply.
