I'm just always mystified that Nolan seems to put such effort into his scripts, then shoots and masters the film so the dialogue he's written is hard to understand for some. If the words aren't important, he could just have the actors literally go, "blah, blah, blah, ... yada, yada, yada, ...."...

Agreed. Civilization seems to be getting stupider by the day.

Yes, when you're beholden to shareholders in a public company, it's all about making money, money, money. If they're not maximizing revenue and paying out sweet dividends, life becomes difficult for the upper management. Shareholders don't care about art, prestige, and "cinema". Only what...

I wonder if Universal had to pay to Warner to avoid giving up some screens to Blue Beetle? All the advertising for BB has touted that it was "filmed for IMAX". Though it seems like BB will still have a number of IMAX showings, per the IMAX web site.

I thought Barbenheimer kind of started with Tom Cruise trying to boost theaters by encouraging everyone to get out and see Barbie and Oppenheimer. That may have backfired on his own M:I film which kind of struggled at the box office.

Probably had to as Titanic (195 mins) is even longer than Oppenheimer (180 mins), so they must have had to change the platters unless they showed an edited version. It seems like Nolan wanted specifically to NOT have intermission if he endorsed expanding the platters to allow it to run...

    Oppenheimer (2023)

IMAX web site is promoting Gran Turismo on 8/11, then Blue Beetle on 8/18, as their upcoming IMAX releases (and later, Dune Part 2, but that release date is still up in the air, I guess).

Not IMAX, but the closest thing to a large format premium screen in Vermont. Tonight's preview tix mostly already sold except for seats closest to the screen: All the Barbie shows for today are pretty filled up, too, on two large screens at this theater. Strange to see two very different...

Looks like this is opening locally at both the mainstream multiplex as well as the more eclectic single-screen "art house" theater in the same town. I'm not sure I've ever seen the same film at both theaters at the same time before.

I believe it has the screens until Blue Beetle comes out mid August.

It probably doesn't have the special projector/equipment needed to show the film in these formats.

    Oppenheimer (2023)

Rated R for "some sexuality, nudity, and language." I guess if you want people to sit for a 3-hour history lesson, you need a little titillation to keep them hooked. ;) As is usually the case in 'Merica, sex and nudity trumps the "intense sequences of violence" of Tenet and the "intense war...

This would mean Tom Cruise is dumber than dog dirt about the realities of theatrical exhibition and really casts him in a bad light if true. Cruise may be a lot of things, IMO, but I've never thought of him as dumb.

Seems like you could have a month or so. Bookings and scheduling are up to the theater, of course, but I don't see another official IMAX release on the schedule until Blue Beetle on August 18.

I think the 19th may be the international release, as it looks like the North American release is the 21st.

Of course it is. That seems to be the new standard length of movies these days. Editing is a lost art.

They're advertising the hell out of this on Sunday Night Football. Seems rather early for such an ad blitz.

B&W IMAX film stock. Who else will ever use that?

    Oppenheimer (2023)

I'd agree. It seems rather pretentious and pointless. I'm not sure how they actually ended up filming it, but it seems like a practical effect might have adverse effects on environment, as well, that could have been avoided with CG.

Weren't there about 117 casting announcements about this film? Only 5 warrant being on the poster?

    Yes, Scott Grimes.
