There is no true sequel. If you're talking about Evil Dead Rise, I don't believe the film has links to any other in the franchise except that it involves the Necronomicon and Deadites.

You should give it a shot. I think it was pretty good (I've watched it 2-3 times), though I'm not one to try and compare it to the original(s). They're all their own thing, IMO. And I may also not be as enamored with the original two films as some.

They've put out a lot of dreck over the years, as their policy seemed to be quantity over quality. Glad to hear they may have turned the corner (at least with some franchises).

I think Crawl is one of the better recent alligator creature features. I see there's also a new film, The Flood (one of the offerings in the email I got today from FanFlix). Based on the short description, it sounds Crawl-adjacent, as it's another story involving a hurricane and alligators.
