Discover used to also have that kinda deal to earn rewards, but not anymore. It's just rewards cashback redemptions for GCs at discount -- and right now, they're offering 20% discount for B&N GCs instead of their usual 10% discount (vs 15% for some of the clothing retailers I was considering)...
Hmmm... I don't suppose they'd allow us to use a GC (like from Discover Card's rewards) to buy their GC to get the additional 10% bonus?
Just noticed Discover's now offering 20% extra value for B&N GC redemptions -- that's their highest ever (and higher than most right now)... and don't...
^Too bad I don't do BJs -- I don't suppose Costco would offer similar.
But glad that you'll benefit from that, David. You definitely deserve it (particular given all that you do re: providing info for the various deals/promos/etc).
I have some Discover Card rewards $$$ to spend, but think...
Maybe I'll venture out to a B&N store in Manhattan some time for this sale. Haven't done that in maybe ~2 years -- can't quite remember the last time, but pretty sure it was after pandemic reopening -- but seemed like the 2-3 I've checked (in Tribeca, Union Sq and Midtown) maybe 2-3 years ago...
That's not unheard of re: lack of signage.
AFAIK, this sale has always been simultaneously in-store and online, except for the exact start/end times just because online is 24/7 (and also only some diffs/discrepancies involving coupons, membership discounts and such back in the day that's no...
Huh... Had not realized Criterion was releasing Stanley Kwan's Rouge (just last week). Will definitely get that (probably along w/ a couples others)... though that cover art, ugh!

Dude,
First, nobody's suggesting for you to "subsidize" B&N. You keep ranting like that's the case, but nobody's saying that at all. Again, if the membership isn't worth anything to you anymore, don't keep it -- you could maybe even complain to B&N to get a partial refund over this. You're...
In that case, definitely insist they honor it -- speak to a supervisor, if needed.
I didn't notice such at the Tribeca B&N here in NYC, but admittedly, I didn't doublecheck -- only had the briefest, passing glance of one sign I think.

This pandemic won't last forever... certainly, we should want and hope not.
I don't hold a grudge against Amazon like some do, but it's still in all our best interest to have significant competition (and that's been steadily dwindling to almost zilch now)...
It's not like we haven't benefited...
They definitely should've given some notice that members no longer get the discount. And the apparent lack of clear info about it even when asked -- I asked the cashier -- is bad. I understand why a regular cashier might not know much about it, but the lack of notice will inevitably lead to...
I would probably still buy most Criterions from B&N's sale w/ or w/out the membership discount... just because I get discounted Discover rewards GCs to buy most of them -- I don't have a ton of better use for them otherwise.
Just will have far less incentive to renew membership though...
That's a major bummer. Was thinking to at least get the Essential Fellini set (amongst others) w/ that. Ah well, guess that means I'm not renewing my membership...

Maybe they'll extend it since it's usually at least 4 weeks long, but less this time. Plus they could probably use the extra sales (and foot traffic)...

Too bad I didn't wait a bit on importing the (region B locked) Eureka version of Police Story 1/2 (and others) to find out Criterion would soon release them here.
I still haven't gotten around to watching them yet...
Guess I'll be less quick to jump on such imports since Criterion seems to be...
Becoming a charter subscriber of the new Criterion Channel as made me feel much better about the wait, haha... even though I haven't actually spent much time using the channel so far... :P
Truth is now I don't need to blind-buy most of their titles of interest, which makes a big diff...
Niiiice! Kinda wish I had decided to go for that all along... but now, guess I'll have to wait a long while -- well, I suppose I probably won't have time to dig thru that boxset over the next few months anyway given my backlog plus all the other titles I've added (and more still to add) during...
IMHO, it's rather bad form though to snail mail you coupons and then require you to go to a web page to look up additional exclusions even though they already include a bunch of exclusions on the snail mail coupon.
I understand doing that for emailed coupons, but would think that's poor policy...
Ack! No dice on my pair of 20%-off snail mailed coupons (that did not have wording to exclude Criterions). The store I normally go to apparently told the clerks not to take any coupons at all for this Criterion sale regardless of the wording on the coupons... :(

The $10-off-$50 coupons worked for me w/out any issue this evening as well (x3).
The salesperson, who's been working at least the last few years at the B&N video section I usually visit, even seemed happier than usual to ring up my purchases. He joked that I was a "professional" w/ the coupons...
Did I miss something or is there actually something particularly special/different about that offer?
Near as I can tell, the old, reusable 20%-off online coupon (T9V7C3R) still works and should be better than this $10-off-$75 deal (unless it can be used for something the usual coupons do not...
Picked up La Dolce Vita, Tess and the Freshman over the weekend (up in Poughkeepsie of all places ;) :P ) w/ help of 3x 15-20%-off coupons plus Amex Rewards GC, so no actual $ out-of-pocket.
Was also eyeing Polanski's Macbeth, the recent (supposedly Fellini-esque) Great Beauty...
Looks like the sale was supposed to start at midnight (according to the details), but only a few titles seem to be active for it thus far.
Also, looks like the GMONDAY25 coupon will not work at all on Criterions near as I can tell.
_Man_
BTW, today's 25% coupon is non-unique: GMONDAY25Also, just noticed it came from their mobile BN domain, so this might only be usable at their mobile site like a few previous non-unique codes. _Man_
Not too sure myself, but think I may only have tried once for BOGO (or maybe B2G1) in-store w/ coupon -- and probably not for Criterion -- and got rejected. And yeah, got that 25% today-only online coupon in my email as well. Probably not doing anything w/ them. _Man_
I wonder how coupons would work for that Criterion BOGO sale, if they work at all...
I did alright w/ the 50%-off sale although the 40%-off coupon somehow ended up working only as 30%-off for me, which made a substantial (~$10) diff since it was for the Zatoichi set -- the receipt had the right...
