Yes, agreed at least at some point in that scene... but not necessarily the entire scene though. IIRC, it starts out seemingly from everyone else's POV instead.

True that... though they're not usually doing it for everyone else to see of course (not even in the original, intended narrative of this film), heh... but in that sense, actually makes the deposition scene more apt/sensible (to me) if it's indeed as I thought (that what's seen is actually from...
I think some probably took more issue w/ the (fairly) explicit portrayal of what's imagined (by whom I'm actually not completely clear given how it was shot) in the deposition scene than the rest.
Most seem to think that was Oppy's imagination -- and I've heard that's Nolan's intention -- but...
Heh... I do wonder though if some actually just found the brief amounts of sex/nudity in such an epic/long film to be jarring enough to stand out and perhaps feel more gratuitous than otherwise...
And since all of that was w/ just 1 woman, I actually don't get the image of Oppy being a...
Not sure if you're going there, but don't think anyone here's suggesting we should restrict such levels of nudity/sex portrayals... at least anymore so than already done.
It's just critique, which is certainly plenty subjective (that everyone here presumably agrees). Don't think anyone here is...
Shrug.
IF it always only matters what the filmmakers wants/thinks, there would be no point at all to film criticism and debates, LOL -- and probably no point in any discussion about films at all other than just to say whether one likes or hates something or how many are in one's collection or...
That sounds very revisionist. It's not like there used to be lots more sex and nudity in a long history of previous mainstream movies afterall.
I wouldn't argue it's particularly gratuitous or anything in this film, but it's certainly also debatable whether at least some of it was unnecessary...
It's not (and probably shouldn't often be) some kinda black-and-white, binary thing though.
There's simply not just 1 way to use dialog (or sound in general) afterall.
Granted, some of what's going on w/ Nolan's films are apparently also complicated by his use of big, noisy, 15/70mm IMAX...
Look at this another way.
I've grown to love (some) opera over the years. When I first began in my late teens to early twenties, I wasn't too crazy about the fact I couldn't understand what was being sung w/out following along w/ subtitles or libretto. But before too long, I realized and...
Actually, it can also have the opposite effect IMHO. His approach (and others like it) is actually immersive... and really, I find perfectly/easily understanding dialog isn't always the point at all. It really depends (as I alluded earlier).
Did great films always even have sound, let alone...
Actually, he doesn't (necessarily) agree w/ you, but merely acknowledge that some/many might take issue w/ his choices. IF he actually agreed w/ you, he might do things differently to appease you, et al.
I tend to agree w/ him. Dialog shouldn't necessarily be easily audible depending on the...
Stay tuned... For All Mankind the 4-hour(!) IMAX 15/70 film in lieu of Season X under Nolan's direction as new exec producer w/ a time-travel-ish twist/wrinkle thrown in will explain all... ;)

Well, I booked yet another (Tues matinee) ticket w/ prime seating for this at the Lincoln Square IMAX, heh, so that will extend my record to 4x, LOL... though this time will be "paid" for via my AMC A-List instead -- actually had to do a slight bit of juggling to use A-List that far in...
Oh, IF they were already at 995M instead of 950M worldwide box office, I'd be tempted to go see it as many times as possible for the rest of its run, LOL, especially since I just joined AMC A-List, but not nearly close enough, haha -- my 3x at the giant Lincoln Square IMAX will probably be it...
If you'd like, maybe look out for some short engagement rerelease there in the future... as they seem to do that for his IMAX films once in a good while... Perhaps even as soon as around or leading upto the upcoming Oscars season just before Dune 2 comes out (on its new date).
Yes, I...
Fortunately, we have pretty good, personally accessible bottles nowadays in the form of shiny discs (even in 4K/HDR/Atmos!) ;) and even HT that can rival (or surpass) most theater experiences  (though not IMAX 15/70 )... so we can always revisit those "lightning... bottle(s)" whenever...
^Well, it's probably just nearly impossible in many/most cases to have enough stakeholders care enough in this particular industry anymore anyway...
I'm sure there are some shareholders who do care (at least somewhat), but probably just not nearly enough to matter enough...

Sorry about getting sidetracked this way.
I have no problem w/ these comments being moved to that other thread, if the moderators believe that's best. No real idea about the other commentators, but I'm guessing they're probably fine w/ that as well...

FWIW, not sure when AMC Lincoln Square extended its IMAX 15/70 run over in NYC by roughly another week thru 9/4 so far (but stopped short of discount Tues and subsequent Wed) -- probably happened on Monday morning or something. As before, all worthwhile enough seats are already sold leaving...
Wow! 18ft from a 55" TV? That sounds almost like looking thru a peep hole, LOL! ;):D Of course, I guess that's not much diff than what many regular people used to do w/ just 19-27" TVs... or even 13"(!), which I had briefly to start college in the mid/late-80's... :P Those were the days... I...
But imagine the difference on a 70-75ft tall IMAX screen, LOL! ;) Of course, one also wouldn't sit nearly as close to that as to a 55" TV, haha... ;) but the FOV is almost certainly incomparably far bigger nonetheless... unless you actually sit w/ your eyes like 2-3ft from your TV, haha... :D...
Haha... yeah, like I said, I figured as much... but still just odd to see 2.39:1 start being used somewhat (more) of late.
Maybe it's just me being slightly OCD w/ numbers (and how they're represented) instead of others being slightly OCD in choosing to use 2.39:1 perhaps...;) as yeah...
Yeah, that's what I figured. Still kinda odd to see 2.39:1 being bothered to be used at all instead of just 2.4:1, if not the prior/original 2.35:1 -- it's just another 0.01:1, so might as well just round that slight bit up while we're at it w/ what's basically all about margin/rounding errors...
Is quoting that fairly common/standard AR as 2.39:1 some kinda oddly fashionable new thing now?
For the longest time (at least during the vast majority of the home video era), it's generally/usually been 2.35:1. Then 2.4:1 started popping up at some point roughly a decade or so ago and...
I would say the giant screen at a typical IMAX 15/70 presentation probably matters more than the 1.43:1 AR the vast of majority of the time. IF they simply showed the regular 70mm version (to its fullest potential) in such a venue, that would probably come pretty close to the IMAX 15/70 version...
Well, I was quite impressed w/ Oppenheimer in IMAX 15/70 at AMC Lincoln Square last night -- yeah, some of the previously mentioned caveats are certainly warranted, but it's certainly a grippingly dramatic telling... though I don't know I'd really necessarily consider it Nolan's best (or at...
LOL! Only 50+? I'd be a bit more impressed it you said/meant 50+ Criterion BDs (and 4K discs)... although maybe you did actually mean that, LOL!;):laugh::laugh:
