Was a dubbed version of Spirited Away submitted for Academy review? And if so, might Disney see this as validation for their practices (releasing future Miyazaki films in non-OSL)? If I remember correctly, Spirited Away saw extrememly limited OSL release. And the dubbed version didn't fare...
Actually, I liked Chris Cooper's acceptance speech the best - he expressed so poignantly his feelings of his win and the love for his wife. Very moving.
So, was Chicago's haul disappointing, given that the bloke's at Ladbroke's closed the books? A best pic win resuscitates some of the lost sheen...somewhat. But given the landslide expectations, I don't think Chicago can take its place as one of the giants in 'Oscar' history.

I'm happy to see Nicole win. After a memorable turn in Flirting, one of my favorite movies, I feared her career might have been bogged down as a B-movie blonde bombshell, starting with Days of Thunder. Now, she's one of the preeminent.
Surprised to see the Academy nominate only 3 in the VFX. Minority Report did not rank high enough for them to even flesh out the number of competitors to a more respectable 4? And is Jack still the favorite, carrying momentum from the GG? Or does the lack of Academy accolades for About...
Writing, Original Screenplay nom for Y Tu Mama Tambien... But shut out of Best Foreign Language Film? Animated Feature Film should be interesting - the weight of Spirited Away vs. the popularity and CG of Ice Age.
