Wow, of all the Roy films I've seen where he's played a federal or state official of some kind, it's quite a surprise to actually see him in a Nevada Ranger uniform in that still from HELDORADO rather than his usual Roy Rogers getup. Now I have to see this movie.
As for IN OLD CHEYENNE, you had...
Lorna Gray (the name she's listed under on IMDB) died last year just three months before her 100th birthday! I remember the first thing I saw her in was the "Captain America" serial (1944) at an all-night screening of the entire serial at a convention sometime in the mid-1970s. She plays a...
I watched TRAIL OF ROBIN HOOD on TCM tonight. Beautiful Trucolor print. Lots of blue and orange. No red or green. Even the Christmas trees were brown. I'm guessing it was a new print. Certainly a lot sharper than my old Republic Pictures VHS edition.
Here are some screen shots:
I was...
Tito Guizar is very good in BLONDIE GOES LATIN (1943)--and Penny Singleton, as Blondie away from Dagwood, has some very sweet near-romantic scenes with him. In my book, it's the best of the Blondies.
That's Noble Johnson in the photo on the far right playing the chief, a black actor who played just about every race and ethnicity you can think of. He's best known as the native chief in KING KONG (1933). This was his last movie. He died in 1978 at the age of 96.
I'm not sure when I bought my copy, but I did an Amazon review of it in 2002, which would have been not long after I bought it and the Amazon page gives a 1995 release date. The VHS box says that the package design is (c)1991, but the copy could have been made later. Here's what I wrote about...
When I read your post, I was baffled. I have the Republic Home Video VHS edition of THE GOLDEN STALLION and I never noticed those problems. I’ve always considered it one of the best VHS editions in my collection (and far superior to the old Nostalgia Merchant VHS editions of Roy Rogers Trucolor...
The Encore Western channel ran some Monte Hale Magnacolor westerns a few years ago. The ones I saw were HOME ON THE RANGE (1946) and CALIFORNIA FIREBRAND (1948). IIRC, they looked restored to me, but don't quote me on that.
Look again. I just went to Amazon Prime, found the film and started watching it. It's 53 min., has no Republic logo, and is a murky print shown in the wrong aspect ratio with everyone stretched out.
I'm new to this thread, but not new to Roy Rogers. I'm as interested in the Trucolor films as the rest of you and was very pleased with some of the VHS transfers (e.g. THE GOLDEN STALLION). However, I want to ask about the Roy Rogers TV show and thought this would be a good place to do it. I...
