It's true though. Plus, Bones always had some sort of funky brandy he stored away to bring out when they needed to chill out. In the movies I think they only leaned into this side of things this one time:

    "Bones, I...need...to get...laid."
  3. Winston T. Boogie

    Star Trek 4

I know the original Trek is now, well, considered no longer appropriate. Three single middle-aged white guys, flying around the universe getting laid with every kind of female that exists, while solving problems and having a few drinks once and a while. Kirk was basically the horniest man in...

I've watched Beyond a couple of times. Saw it in a cinema when it opened and then watched the Blu. I can not tell you what it was about. The opening seemed a huge sloppy mess and the rest of it, outside of small bits of character interaction was totally forgettable. It did seem to be following...

    Star Trek 4

Yes, this is it! Do this! It could be a smaller film, a side adventure that does not feature the entire cast. Something that leads up to another film perhaps where more of the cast shows up. Basically, be creative, forget trying to appeal to the biggest audience possible, make something good...

I would also add that the idea that you can't make a good Star Trek picture for a budget that does not exceed $100 million is kind of absurd. You certainly can, but these days with big franchises we tend to have a lot of creatively bankrupt people running them.

So, a few questions, is anyone in this thread with an interest in a fourth Star Trek film under the age of 30? I can say I am not and I am unsure if there is anybody under 30 that has an interest in Star Trek. In fact, it may be just for people over 40. Second, does Kelvin timeline just mean...

    Star Trek 4

I recall a long time ago, well before any of the talk of Tarantino making a Trek film, that he talked about an idea he had to write a Trek story based on or related to some favorite episode from the original series. Now, I have no idea if that is what his Trek movie idea is or will be or if all...

Often when I am reading things here I think "This thread could use more fiber." Keeps things more regular...

    Star Trek 4

Yes, but telling people they should get more fiber in their diet is appropriate in any thread. It's about your health and well being after all.

It has been said that if you are constipated watching that Ghostbuster's reboot is like consuming a massive amount of Colon Blow cereal.

Yes, my overall point is with these big franchise films people pay to see the franchise...not so much the actors playing the characters. I mean in truth Pine is a far better actor than Shatner ever was but Shatner got to define the part. However, I never really minded that Shatner was not a...

It does appear to me that what Hemsworth most enjoys and is far better at than dramatic acting is being funny. I don't see him as a great comic actor either but due to his enthusiasm for it I think he does it better than trying to carry a film like Blackhat where his limitations as an actor...

    Star Trek 4

I'm very aware you like it when I say "in my opinion" or any words to that effect but I also wonder whose opinion you think I might be stating when I say something and do not attribute it to anybody else...and that makes me laugh. :P When I was talking about what somebody else thought I...

    Star Trek 4

No, I do that here intentionally because I think it is both ridiculous and funny...:P

    Star Trek 4

This is the thing. As far as I know people don't pay to see nor flock to Chris Hemsworth films. Hence, why I did not think of him as a star. People flock to just about every comic book film that comes out and so Thor they will pay for but they would have done so even if Hemsworth was not the...

    Star Trek 4

Yes, there are quotes from Kubrick stating he likes working with movie stars but he had a very specific interest in how he did so. I think he had mainly decided that he did not much need them but if they chose to work with him then he was interested. Kubrick did not cast Douglas though, it was...

I agree with that and Hemsworth, in my opinion, is about as one note as it gets when it comes to actors.

Are you saying you don't think he's a good looking guy?

    Star Trek 4

Well, it seems that "stars" don't have that big an effect on the box office numbers. Interestingly, none other than Stanley Kubrick once studied this and his take was that adding them to a picture does not balance out their cost in most cases. I did not realize Hemsworth is considered a big...

    Star Trek 4

Well, I was replying after having read all the other posts about money being the reason Paramount was backing off doing Star Trek 4 and money being the issue between Paramount and Pine. Basically, I think if Paramount wanted to cut the budget of Star Trek 4 that what they could do is make a...

    Star Trek 4

Actually, that is not what I said and interestingly you quoted me... I said IF anybody wanted more money. Truth is that Pine wanted what was promised which IS more now than Paramount wants to pay. The point being that Paramount can cut or increase pay however they see fit because people that...
  23. Winston T. Boogie

    Star Trek 4

Yes, I am aware of this. My point was not that the film stalled due to Pine looking for a raise, the point was that based upon what attracts audiences to a film today they can (and did) attempt to cut Pine's pay because they can put somebody else in the suit. They can "reboot" with a whole new...

    Star Trek 4

Star Trek has had a longer run than probably anybody could have imagined. From the 1960s television series through animation, spin off series, and motion pictures. What made Star Trek popular though was the characters and their interactions. It was not the special effects sequences nor crazy...
