No. They're. Not.
That's the biggest misrepresentation that keeps coming up over and over again, and it's starting to get really irritating. Those who are on the side that these new reimaginings look good are nearly universally agreed that they wish that they'd been mastered differently. Pretty...
Did you actually go back and read the comments that I mentioned? Because it sure doesn't sound like you did. I said the video has issues, and it does. The voice is AI generated, and while I'm not saying that the whole video was AI generated, the content was still cobbled from elsewhere. The...
I've said this before in other threads, but with the caveat that I haven't watched Aliens yet and it may well be worse, I have already watched both Titanic and The Abyss. Are they what I would have preferred, if I had my druthers? No, and I've been clear about that. Am I content enough with them...
Setting aside the fact that the voice on that video sounds AI generated, with weird pronunciations, stresses, and cadences, I have a hard time taking something seriously when it opens by saying that it proposes to set aside everything you have read or heard so far, and then proceeds to read a...
1.05 screen widths away is anything but normal viewing distance for the vast majority of viewers. Anybody with normal vision from normal viewing distances can barely perceive the difference between 4K and upscaled 1080p, let alone anything else. For most viewers, the differences with UHD comes...
I got all three yesterday and haven't had a chance to watch any of them yet, but I did put Aliens in to check it out, and on an initial glance, I concur with RAH. It's still not how I would have preferred to have things done, but from normal viewing distances and in motion, it looks pretty...
Slight clarification: Vincent Ward is the one who had the truly insane plan for Alien 3, and for a time, both Fox and Brandywine were actually behind it. He got pretty far into preproduction, too. The whole plan was tamped back before Fincher even came onto the picture. He was still interfered...
Giant is actually on of the only classic films where I'd be genuinely interested to see what AI could do to improve all of the optical work. We already have a gorgeous UHD that's faithful to the original version. So like you say, why not try? Giant is an unusual case because of the...
It would be more accurate to say that they're saying that they'll still take orders through the end of May. My trust in Disney right now isn't the highest. But that's not really what I meant. Since they are shutting everything down, I'm not confident that they'll maintain enough inventory to...
My DMC order hasn't even shipped yet, and they usually ship early. With everything else that's going on there, I'm a little concerned about whether or not I'll get them.
No, because I wouldn't. I don't drive my 350hp AWD Focus RS (AWD, not 4WD, which would be a bad thing on a performance vehicle) aggressively in the wet/snow when it's sitting on its Cup 2s, because they're not designed for those conditions. Put a set of Blizzaks on the rear wheels of a Vantage...
You're mind works just fine. It's fair to have a bit of skepticism about decades-old memories of color in particular because that's a detail that human memory doesn't store in detailed fashion. Actors, dialogue, and plot points are things that our memories are designed to retain -- although...
And again, a 4K scan from the OCN doesn't preserve the theatrical experience of film anyway. And to your point, the design of the original productions never once involved people seeing the negatives as shot. They were always designed to go through the printing process, and intended to be seen...
There was wildly excessive "grain" on the CAV laserdisc, and of course it wasn't a compression artifact. It was plain old noise, present on the analog master and reproduced faithfully. Aliens has had issues that go beyond the graininess of the original stocks, going back for decades now.
I'm crossing my fingers that my DMC order will actually ship. It's listed as "Processing."
And yes, it should, and in theory Disney would prioritize their own store for inventory, even if it's going away, but it's the wild west at that company right now.
