A comedy-drama that examines the nuances of the mother-child relationship, writer/director Lorene Scafaria's The Meddler features a brilliant cast that includes Rose Byrne and J.K. Simmons. However, it all boils down to Susan Sarandon's funny yet heartfelt performance as the titular character, which elevates the movie well beyond typical Hollywood tropes and clichés.
