Just received word from Amazon UK that my order from 2015 is soon to be released from Studio Canal in a "stunningly new restoration" with new bonus materials.

This is unmissable. Can't wait to see Hepburn and O'Toole tearing the screen with their greatness in HD. And that John Barry score in lossless audio... Af.

Young Timothy Dalton, young Anthony Hopkins, young Nigel Terry, young John Castle: all fine actors with interesting careers ahead of them!

What a cast!

The HD standard is known as ATSC. Where we run into problems are PAL sourced special features, due to the differing frame rate and resolution (576i/50).

We here in Europe don't have any problems with NTSC material, because it is implemented in the TV and player set-ups.
I wonder why this is vice-versa not the case in the US or Canada.

Elusive is the key word. Saw Lion in Winter Roadshow in NYC and it was in mono.
I saw the original release in London and am pretty sure it was 4 track mag in 35mm.
Saw the reissue in 70 and pretty sure it was mono.
Here in Australia guys say the original release was 70 and true stereo.

I surely do hope for a great transfer this time, having already bought two rather crappy Blu-rays from other countries. This is one of my favorite films, and I want it done right.

I saw the film on first release in 35mm and it was definitely mono. I'm sceptical that there was ever a true stereo version on any format.

At the Odeon Haymarket Doug?
It was definitely 35 but I seem to remember stereo.
The release in D-150 at Marble Arch was mono.

Honestly, with all the recent announcements coming out of region B, this, Women in Love, and Napoleon, I think it's time to seriously consider getting an all region player.

I saw the UK 70mm print on the Southbank and at Bradford a few years ago and it was mono and pink.

I'd love to have a 5.1 option along with the original mono, as that Barry score is just so magnificent (and won an Oscar, too!).
