Into the Forest, directed by Patricia Roseman, and starring Ellen Page and Evan Rachel Wood, is a low-budget Canadian production, that should have attracted more attention than it did.
Although never precisely spelled out, it's a post-apocalyptic tale, occurring in the near future, with the only visible reality being a power failure that goes on for months.
The film takes place far outside of a small town in the Canadian northwest, with the forest of the title surrounding the action. The film is more about their relationship in a situation of loss of normalcy. And it works beautifully.
Superb performances. I'd advise that you get ahold of this one, whether purchase or rental.
Although I've seen no specifics, the film appears to have been shot digitally by Daniel Grant, and the resultant Blu-ray is letter perfect.
For those wondering, this is not the Stephen Sondheim musical of a similar name.
