Panasonic announces GZ2000 as ‘world’s most cinematic’ TV

Panasonic today announced the launch of the GZ2000, a new custom ‘professional edition’ 4K OLED panel which has been ‘tuned in Hollywood’. It includes an HCX PRO intelligent processor which Panasonic claims will improve detail and accuracy, while the unit will also support HDR10+, Dolby Vision and HLG Photo format, the first such monitor to do so. The GZ2000 has built-in upward-firing speakers for Dolby Atmos object-based audio, and the speakers have been tuned by sister company, Technics, with ‘JENO’ engine technology.

Panasonic says the GZ2000 is the world’s first OLED TV to support both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision HDR, as well as HLG Photo, a new still image format which brings still photography into the HDR arena. The GZ2000 is the first TV with built-in upward-firing speakers capable of delivering Dolby Atmos immersive audio and the audio system has been tuned by Technics engineers. The new TV has support for voice assistants and can integrate with a smart home setup.

The TV is available in 65-inch and 55-inch screen sizes, and the OLED panels combine Panasonic’s ‘technological accuracy’ with the color-tuning skills of Stefan Sonnenfeld, founder and CEO of Company 3.  Sonnenfeld is known for championing color grading in the pursuit of creative development. He was described by NPR as a “da Vinci of the movies” and has worked as colorist on several feature films in the past decade, including “A Star is Born”, “Wonder Woman”, “Man of Steel”, “Beauty and the Beast”, and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.

Average brightness level have been boosted by Panasonic engineers and contrast handling has been improved, resulting in improved dynamic range. The GZ2000 is able to reproduce complex scenes of variable brightness and contrast. Because of the level of customization deployed – combined with the color-optimizing skills of Sonnenfeld – Panasonic says it has created some of the ‘most accurate, cinematic images ever seen on a TV.’

“Together, Dolby and Panasonic are bringing best-in-class audio and imaging technology to Panasonic’s TVs,” said John Couling, Senior Vice President, commercial partnerships, “Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos perfectly complement the GZ2000’s advanced display, transforming it into an entertainment powerhouse.”
