I have two Netgear RAID setups for music rips and movie rips. They have Gigabit Ethernet connections to a Gigabit router with AX3000 Wi-Fi speed. Using a new OLED flat screen (Sony), there is NOTHING that will stream "big" 4k/UHD rips that are 1 file (mkv) 75-100 GB except an Oppo BDP-203...
Personally, I wouldn't worry about a UPS - one reason is the reasonably priced units produce terrible looking sine waves... more triangular, with very high distortion. Fine for computer power supplies, but not for audio and video components.
I've reviewed a lot of power conditioning products...
For anyone who wants to make their own component cables... I would recommend any of the Belden HDTV coax... the only brand I see that claims 100% testing to 3GHz - beyond even what you need for HDTV but comforting to know the cable is capable of transmitting frequencies that high effectively...
Scan Velocity Modulation - a trick TV manufacturers use to make their sets stand out when they are displayed on a wall of TVs at electronic superstores. Unfortunately, it makes the picture worse when you see the difference between 'off' and 'on'.
A progressive scan DVD player may or may not "greatly" improve the image quality - all depends on how observant you are. My wife barely noticed or cared. I thought it was a major improvement. You don't have to spend a lot of money on a DVD player to get a good picture. But if you can find...
As long as the contrast control is set to a reasonable level below maximum, there shouldn't be a significant problem using vertical compression mode. By the time it does become an issue, most TV will probably be 16:9 anyway (-:
And just to keep everybody on their toes... there is a movememt...
I got the second 36HF71 set to replace the first one that was ruined by the delivery people turning the set upside down to take it out of the box.
This one is nearly perfect. Horizontal lines are straight as arrows and not tilted. Vertical lines are pincushioned just a bit at the outsides of...
A non-enthusiast visiting another forum complained that after 9 months, he already had the Disney logo burned in to the lower right corner of the set. Shows you how fast things can go wrong if you aren't paying attention. Buying a demo RPTV (or even a tube set) from just about any store is a...
I don't know about the RP56 being "sold out" or replaced with a new model just yet. Best Buys had shelves of them today. I was just looking at what they had and noticed an "open box" RP56 that had never even had the power cord taken out of the tie-wrap. $199 with all of Best Buys support (30...
I just got a 36HF71... your $2K CDN is way cheaper than the $1900US I paid... I could have paid less from an internet source, but I decided that having the store local for a large item prone to delivery problems was the right thing to do.
When they delivered my set, I watched them, while on my...
