2024. The year I stopped deluding PMF into believing that his “wants” list of BD purchases will ever become shorter. Heck, I wasn’t even aware of this series until now; so that’s 5 volumes added right there. Okay, then, keep ‘em coming and I shall keep supporting.:thumbs-up-smiley:
Always good to slow it down when reading at a glance. For a minute there, I had thought that Criterion released an unbeknownst to me 4K of Rolling Thunder Review. Anyway, I also like Rolling Thunder (and even Tropic Thunder), so all is well with the world.
One could only wish that Battle of Britain and everything else ever lit by Freddie A. Young could find its way onto a 4K/UHD disc. Heck, even a BD on other unreleased F. A. Young titles would be welcomed at this point.
The 1936 version of 3 Godfathers - which is quite a Bonus Feature and gift to have in this package from WAC - was directed by Richard Boleslawski. This is the same Richard who penned and published “Acting: The First Six Lessons” (1933). The alternate spelling of his name, on this tiny and...
A 4K/UHD of a film musical bearing a credit for Fred Hynes as its “Stereophonic Re-recording Supervisor” and, interestingly, Loyal Griggs for “2nd Unit Photography” ain’t altogether a chop-liver project. Sure, Paint Your Wagon has its moments of quirks and flaws, but “who gives a damn”, it’s a...
As a Thank You to WAC for this restoration and release of The Nuns Story, I will purchase the entire roster of April’s offerings to show my support of this specific undertaking. Years ago, The Nuns Story was reported as being a very problematic and/or expensive restoration; to which many...
Kino Lorber has gained so mightily in their 4K/UHD output. If WAC, Warner’s or Criterion are not going to jump at Ryan’s Daughter, then maybe Kino Lorber should give some considerations towards a release.
What’s so wrong about posters expressing their joys, in the first place? Nothing. Happiness is a good thing.
Hey, Kino, count me in for a purchase of Paint Your Wagon, too.
Thank you, Matt, for a well balanced review.
Ditto, Ditto, Ditto…and OMG !!!
P.S. Why didn’t AMPAS have Jodie Foster, Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese reunite on the stage by jointly opening an envelope? Like, maybe, for the predictable and deserving Wes Anderson win. That would’ve been great, as Mr. Scorsese had made a few short...
Funny thing, but I thought it was perfection, too. Even grabbed the vinyl soundtrack. These are just one of those films where you wonder why it wasn’t bigger. Was it the critics, was it the timing of its release and what else had opened that week, or was it ahead of its time? Too many...
Just a footnote of clarification for the general reader. Piracy is not limited to Blu rays. DVDs have also fallen prey to traffickers.
Moving forward, I am envious of your having been able to experience any of the 70mm presentations of Ryan’s Daughter; inclusive of viewing the coveted Swedish...
