Paramount+ Star Trek: Discovery - Official Thread

I make the same constant mistake in my life: start to watch a show I want to focus on when I'm struggling to stay awake. Mea culpa, I fell asleep halfway through "Whistlespeak" last week. I woke up and promptly went back to the last thing I remembered seeing and managed to finish the episode...

    Masters of the Universe (2026)

Thou shalt not talk bad about Gwildor! :) (I'm kidding!) I'll believe this is going to be a movie when my butt is in the seat. Not before. I don't even care about the synopsis now...I'm not going to let my inner child get hyped and then die when it doesn't happen.

    The Fall Guy (2024)

The first hour just bangs along...I kinda lost interest in the second hour. The laughs seemed to fall away and a lot of people were up and down in my screening at this point. The stunts and action are great; the theater was bouncing from the sound mix. Gosling does everything he can except break...

    The Fall Guy (2024)

Going tonight. I had a ticket for the Wednesday Early Access, but my husband was in Charlotte for work unexpectedly and I needed to be able to get him from the airport. So tonight it is!

Paramount+ Star Trek: Discovery - Official Thread

I'm glad it's not just me. :) I'll defend most of those series, with some caveats. Just having a real tough time with Season 5. Something about Mary Wiseman's portrayal of Tilly is rubbing me the wrong way this season, too. I was never Fan #1 of hers, but I could rationalize it based on...

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024)

Found it...apparently on par with Rise of the Planet of the Apes (which is the best of the new Apes movies, IMHO). Per Google, budget is around $120 million. https://deadline.com/2024/04/kingdom-of-the-planet-of-the-apes-box-office-opening-1235874441/

Paramount+ Star Trek: Discovery - Official Thread

Finally caught up with "Mirrors" last night. It took me two nights to get through it, actually...I fell asleep halfway through the episode on Monday. Yeah...no. I might be the biggest proponent of Discovery here, but this season just isn't hitting me in any way. It's just "there." I don't find...

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024)

I haven't seen the tracking, but if that's under where they want it to be, or if the movie isn't generating any buzz (which, frankly, I don't think it is), then yes.

AMC A-List & other theater subscriptions

Thank you! We're going to check them out and hope for the best, but also prepping for the "worst."

AMC A-List & other theater subscriptions

Yeah, that's the plan. I really love my Thursday night movies (and sometimes other nights), so we're going to give it a try. Just figured if anyone here is from Charlotte and had some input or an opinion.

AMC A-List & other theater subscriptions

Completely unrelated to any movies out right now, but 100% about AMC and whether or not we keep our A-List subs. We're moving from Orlando to the Charlotte, NC area pretty soon. Online reviews of the Charlotte Pavillion 22 aren't the best (they also don't have a Dolby Theater from what I can...

Thank you for saying that, Jerry. I'm not in the camp of loving Voyage Home. :)

Scott Atwell Star Trek Discussion thread (Series and Films)

That. Is. Exactly. My. Problem. With. It. It's a boring episode with a lack of focus on the main characters. It's not a Trek episode even though it is the final episode of season two. I have zero love for this episode, really dislike they used it in Picard and is the "least" of all Trek season...

Scott Atwell Star Trek Discussion thread (Series and Films)

Sure, but that's not the standard I'm using. Any episode should be focused on the main characters with the guest stars being used to add seasoning to the story. "Assignment: Earth" is a Gary Seven show with Kirk and Spock thrown in to keep it Trek. Going back to Season 1..."Operation...

Scott Atwell Star Trek Discussion thread (Series and Films)

Yeah, it was an episode where "our" characters are guest stars in their own show...that's not something I like, especially for a season finale. If Gary Seven had been established previously and he was a recurring guest, I might have been on board more with "Assignment: Earth." It's not a bad...

Scott Atwell Star Trek Discussion thread (Series and Films)

Funny-ish story: my BF at the time and I went to on one of the last HTF's meets in Hollywood...probably 2011 or 2012. We were in a car with Bob and some other people. He casually mentions he found the footage of "The Cage", which I thought was pretty wildly cool. I tweeted it (when I was on that...

Paramount+ Star Trek: Discovery - Official Thread

Agreed. Wilson Cruz hasn't been given the most to do on this show...either the writers have no idea what to do with him or an outcome of the 10 episode seasons. In any event, it looked like he was having fun in "Jinaal." This is all I was looking for. Some explanation, something that makes a...

    Star Trek Lower Decks

This really isn't a shock to me. Lower Decks isn't my style of Trek, usually, but I wasn't hoping for it to go away, either. Any Trek is welcome for me. I agree with everything @Josh Steinberg said. Ten episodes vs. twenty-four was theoretically supposed to mean bigger and badder episodes in...

Not All Movie Rewards Programs Are Created Equal

Disappointing e-mail, but not entirely unexpected. I have a ton of Universal points, so I randomly picked up the to 4k movies-Everest and Last Christmas. And I still have 15k points left...

Paramount+ Star Trek: Discovery - Official Thread

So my issue, and again...I won't harp on this all season long...is that this was never followed up on in a televised story between 1993 and 2024. That's a long time in real time and not a lot of TV seasons, to be fair. Not a whiff of Progenitors or Red Directive or anything else. Not once. DS9...

Press Release BVHE Press Release: The Abyss, True Lies, Aliens, Titanic, Avatar and Avatar: The Way of the Water (4k UHD) (Blu-ray)

No, not for me. The main entry is the SE and then the Theatrical is linked inside it.

Press Release BVHE Press Release: The Abyss, True Lies, Aliens, Titanic, Avatar and Avatar: The Way of the Water (4k UHD) (Blu-ray)

I just bought Abyss on iTunes...looking at the MA app on my iPad, it's 4k, DV and Atmos. The Theatrical Version is included as an extra; going to the Apple TV, the tag says it's HD.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024)

"Red Directive," while fun, feels like a "hey, we've been gone for such a long time, we have to remind the audience what's going on." The reception/cocktail party scene was hard for me to watch...the actors seemed to be trying to find their footing again and nothing they did/said actually landed...

    Monkey Man (2024)

They always came out in the theater at the wrong time for me? My husband isn't into gore and blood, so I know I'd be watching alone? (Also, anything with a pet being mistreated-regardless of a good or bad outcome-is a no go for him.) I dunno...I know those are flimsy, at best, excuses. But I...

    Monkey Man (2024)

Went to see this last night and the theater was about half full, maybe slightly more than that. I haven't seen any of the John Wick movies, but I know what they're about. Monkey Man was a very "sensory" movie for me, meaning I "felt" I was in India with the characters. I "felt" the sweat...

Paramount+ Star Trek: Discovery - Official Thread

Different strokes for different folks, of course, but Season 3 was the exact right story with the exact right ending for something airing at the end of 2020/beginning of 2021. It's about connection, why we are all important to one another and how being isolated (like Sukal) can lead to negative...

Paramount+ Star Trek: Discovery - Official Thread

That's the rub for me, though. There are no seatbelts for both in-universe and practical storytelling reasons. Does that mean that all the shows are "less than" because there are no seatbelts? No, at least not to me. It's internally consistent. This is also a TV show which has to have something...
