I keep hoping that either Colosseo Film or Plaion Pictures (nee Koch Media) will release a Blu-ray of GIANT OF MARATHON starring Steve Reeves. Colosseo released Blu-rays of THIEF OF BAGHDAD (1961) and THE SLAVE, both starring Reeves. Plaion/Koch released Blu-rays of ROMULUS UND REMUS (with...
I just received my copy of THE ABYSS from Amazon. Very glad to have it, although I do have issues with the packaging. The outer slipcover has one of those stickers on it that you can't peel off without tearing the slipcover. Now, I personally don't care about slipcovers at all, but that will...
My two copies of THE ABYSS are expected to be delivered to me today, one from Amazon and the other from Diabolik. If even one of those arrives, it will be a great day. It has taken decades for this to occur.
I have two copies of THE ABYSS in current shipment, one from Amazon and one from Diabolik.
Back when THE ABYSS was released on widescreen laserdisc, a Fox executive actually stated, "The world is not ready for 2:35-1." Fortunately, he was wrong.
When I bought the new DVD around 2002, I was...
Here's a tip for US customers: a couple of local Barnes and Noble stores are listing THE ABYSS as being in stock as of this morning. I won't be taking advantage of this, because those stores would require a round-trip drive of three hours, which I'm too old for at this point. I mention this...
Some posters on the Blu-ray.com forum do believe that 4K UHD discs are more susceptible to being scratched than their Blu-ray counterparts. I don't have the UHD format myself, so I have no personal knowledge of that.
I have always hated Walmart for various reasons, but this situation with THE ABYSS has been really eye-opening for me. I hadn't realized that Walmart had that much clout. Lesson learned. I will keep my Amazon order intact until or unless I can find a normally-priced copy elsewhere. My local...
My order of THE ABYSS from Diabolik now has a USPS tracking number, going first class. I hope it will arrive by this weekend, but it might slide into next week. My Amazon order is still scheduled for March 18th. We'll see.
I do think that Disney vastly underestimated the demand for ABYSS...
In 1961, one could attend various Steve Reeves pictures in at least ten different theaters in the Seattle area (not counting drive-ins). HERCULES, HERCULES UNCHAINED, GOLIATH AND THE BARBARIANS, THE WHITE WARRIOR, THIEF OF BAGHDAD, GIANT OF MARATHON, and MORGAN THE PIRATE were all playing...
Well, my new Amazon street date for ABYSS is March 18. Seems like different Amazon customers are receiving different street dates for it. Did Disney (or Amazon) underestimate the demand?
Amazon just emailed me that THE ABYSS has been delayed until March 18. Also, it doesn't appear that Diabolik or Atomic Movie Store have it in stock, either.
Should I assume that WalMart is more powerful, or better organized, than Amazon?
I was fortunate to see every 1960's Steve Reeves film first-run, other than THE AVENGER (which was incorrectlyl marketed as a reissue of THE TROJAN HORSE in my hometown).
I have preordered two copies, one from Amazon and one from Diabolik. Neither has shipped out as of yet, although Amazon states that my copy will arrive on Tuesday, March 12th. We'll see.
I went to the Amazon. It site, but most copies of ESTHER there are in the 1:33-1 aspect ratio. I think they also have a copy of the Spanish boot that I purchased which is in CinemaScope. That version was probably "borrowed" from the OOP German DVD, which was the first home video release in...
I bought a widescreen copy of ESTHER AND THE KING from Spain, which may well have been a bootleg. At the time, the German DVD of ESTHER was going for more than a hundred bucks, so I guess I went the cheap route. I might consider the Italian DVD, which I assume is legit.
It looks like the same print of ATLAS that Tubi has, nothing worth preserving. I wish that somebody would find a widescreen print, as impoverished as the film is.
I don't necessarily assume that. Film Masters has been releasing best-ever transfers of old genre classics. I would expect this transfer to look more like the Warner Archives MOD than the Anolis. The Film Masters release will have different supplements, as well.
