Taking a look at the last 16 years:
2008: Iron Man and Universal's The Hulk - 2
2009: 0
2010: Iron Man 2 - 1
2011: Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger - 2
2012: The Avengers - 1
2013: Iron Man 3, Thor: the Dark World - 2
2014: Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy -...
I've saved my 25th anniversary rewatch for either today or tomorrow, since today is the actual 25th anniversary of the film. This was a surprising one, coming out sandwiched between the unexpected zeitgeist experience The Matrix and the culture news dominating The Phantom Menace. But it carved...
25 years since The Matrix had its U.S. Premiere, completely upending the expectations for 1999. That was an amazing year for movies, and I think no movie is more symbolic or representative of that year than this one.
It still holds up beautifully.
I'd bet my eyeteeth that Young Avengers, if made, will not be successful at all.
I'd also bet, something less than my eyeteeth, that it does not get made.
I haven't watched the new trailer. But those were my responses to the first Fury Road trailer, so that brings me a lot of joy. I'll probably cave and watch this trailer, but maybe I can hold out until release day.
There is good news. The 1994 original is coming to 4K soon, and absolutely still delivers. I watched it last year for the first time in forever, and it still worked for me, top to bottom. Proyas is genuinely visionary director, the soundtrack remains fantastic, and Lee, Hudson, Kelley (and...
Exactly. It literally happens EVERY time heroes meet. It's the "serial killer isn't REALLY dead" moment from horror movies. You are surprised when it DOESN'T happen.
Martin, I did like that feature. It's a bummer only actors get it, but it is a nice tribute. It didn't run overlong, and it was nice to see the "fraternity" in action.
I watched a little, mostly to hang our with my son. Very happy to see Godzilla Minus One win that VFX Oscar.
I thought tha canned jokes were flat, Kimmel was Kimmel, enjoyed the TWINS reunion ("Batman, that son of a bitch..."), and expect this was the most watched Oscars telecast in at least a...
I thought Chalamet was absolutely amazing in the first film, easily as good as he is in this one. He actually gets a bit more range to play in the first, with his spice dreams and whatnot. And he gets Ferguson to bounce off.
And even the word issues is probably way too strong! There were a few things I wish it had done differently, which would have allowed me to stay in the film a little more completely.
My criticisms are certainly not intended to be “it should have been like it was in the book.” More than a few of my praises are for choices made by the filmmakers that deviate from the novel. And some of my gripes are things they didn’t change from the novel. I responded to the film itself...
I’m a few days time late, giving a spoiler free review on Sunday night. So the film is a bit less fresh in my mind, but I wanted to share some more detailed thoughts on where the film worked, and where I think it fell a bit short in my hopes. I’ll reiterate that Dune: Part Two is a good film...
I rewatched The Crow on Devil's Night last year. I hadn't seen it in years and years.
I found it mesmerizing and still quite potent and effective. It certainly has a vision, commits to it, and reaps the rewards.
I have zero interest in this particular remake.
I also was fortunate enough to attend an IMAX screening of Dune: Part 2. I found it excellent, but not without some issues. I don't want to give anything away, as few films generate the interest and excitement of Dune; I'd hate to make a comment that diminishes any surprises for a first time...
Doom isn’t just an antagonist for a single film, or for the Fantastic Four and those actors. Frankly, he’s their chance to possibly recapture the shared universe (shared threat) that the first three Phases enjoyed. Casting him is critical, especially since Kang Dynasty is DOA and both Secret...
