TV channels botching aspect ratios, what the deal?

This is kind of what I'm talking about it doesn't make sense. Since day one of 16:9 TVs they have had a setting to allow the user to choose to MAR the ratio by stretching 4:3 to fit the 16:9 screen for example. Plus a few other settings to fit content to the screen. Which if fitting a larger...

TV channels botching aspect ratios, what the deal?

This is driving me crazy but lately TV channels have been taking programs originally recorded in 16:9 and are distorting it to something like 2.39:1 so that there are black bars about 10% of the height of the screen on the top and on the bottom. And worse taking old 4:3 programming and...

track, rate, etc movies and tv shows question

Up until now Netflix has served my purpose for keeping track of what I have watched and what I have rated the stuff. However with their recent change to a dumbed-down thumbs up or down it is no longer acceptable for the purposes it once served. I find goodreads to be very useful for doing...

    Teenage mutant ninja turtles 2003

I'm looking for a source to watch this show. Something came up back when it originally aired and I don't think I ever watched this past a couple seasons. For ease of watching I was looking to stream it. But Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon don't have it available to stream. I can start up DVD for a...

advice needed: Upgrade my roku XDS 2100X

I've had the XDS for years now. And every time I have a problem with it I keep thinking to myself maybe it is getting to that time where it needs to be replaced with an upgrade of some kind. I see roku has now come out with roku 4. I have hesitated on all previous models even the roku stick...

TV shows and/or live TV streaming

I've been away for quite awhile now with all sorts of stuff going on in life that I hadn't checked this thread since about a month or so after my last post. I was surprised to see the discussion come back a year later. My original quest was for a free source of streaming (delayed) TV channels...

TV shows and/or live TV streaming

I almost forgot I posted this I guess with the holidays and all. But anyways I'm not lookin to buy any hardware or anything like that since the channels are broadcast for free. So far the few things I have found are for just a few out of state ones (ex. fox or abc). But then only 2 or 3 of them...

TV shows and/or live TV streaming

So lately I have been wanting more than what netflix offers for TV shows. I have quite a lot of shows on netflix I can and want to watch. However, there are a few shows I have season(s) to watch that are not available at this time to stream on netflix. Also I've heard that you can stream live TV...

    projector and screen question

So gain is the most important thing to concider I take it. I imagine crinkle resistance (or proof) would be in how the screen is designed? Lets take these two as a starting point and cover any cons. As they are listed in the top 10 most popular on bestbuy.com...

    projector and screen question

The budget might be able to be higher but I won't know until the time gets closer. I would like to do it right so that I'm happy in the long term with my purchases. If that means waiting more time to do it then I will. What exactly is involved in DIY screen? And how does that compare to buying...

    projector and screen question

The idea of going 3d sounds nifty, but I'm doubtful of it being practical for me. And I assume costs significantly more. Lighting is either on or off and no short term plan to change that. The screen will be on the same wall as the windows and they can be blacked out if need be. And the room is...

    projector and screen question

A few years back me and a couple friends tossed around the idea of screen and projector over a flat panel TV. I don't remember much of the details of that but I think we came to the conclusion of projector and screen. I'm still using an old 27" tube TV bought I'm almost certain before flat panel...

    VSX-1014TX Tweaking audio help needed

I set it on my nightstand (I moved it to the center of the room where I have my Papasan chair) and happened to be ear height. I can only assume that if the room is why the sound is not good that it too would cause the auto MCACC to not work right and why it set it up the way it did. Or that if...

    VSX-1014TX Tweaking audio help needed

Yup the MCACC auto calibration was even worse. It set it up with zeros on the lows and maxxed out on the highs almost maxxed on the mids. It was ear piercingly treble. I was afraid that I was going to be out of luck on solving this. I plan on buying a sub but not until when I go to finish the...

    VSX-1014TX Tweaking audio help needed

I just moved to a new house and have my stuff setup in the unfinished basement. I plan to finish the basement in the spring or summer of 2013 if that is of any relevance. Anyways my last place there wasn't enough room for me to setup everything so my system has been in it's boxes for the last...

    Time compression

That is true there are probably some shows that weren't really popular on TV and so their DVD sets don't sell well for that reason for example. But I was talking about shows that are edited by removing segments and/or replacing music typically that is the main if not sole reason those DVD sets...

    Time compression

I'm pretty sure this is true of Quantum Leap too. In fact the company got so much negative response because of the music alternations from season 2 and 3 they didn't alter any music in season 4 and 5. So I'm inclined to believe that alterations that significantly alter the original airing are...

    Time compression

I seen a show on DVD too that was all over the place with run time per episode though I can't remember which show it was since that was years ago now and was a set from a friend of mine. At the time I was clueless as to why and suspected the shorter than expected ones were edited. That was also...

    Time compression

As far as I understand, at least in the past for sure, there are/were two kinds of ways to air older shows in syndication. The first was the way USA network was notorious for doing in the 90s with older shows. That was to air them with segments of the show deleted. For example several lines of...

The Littles (Mill Creek vs S'more) questions

Interesting discovery there. I watched the movie on netflix instant watch. I don't think I ever seen it before that. I was hoping someone owned both sets and could do a side by side simultaneous playback to see what differences there were. I had been thinking more today about TV shows on DVD...

    Time compression

The idea occurred to me today, is it possible that TV shows on DVD are time compressed. I had heard about time compression years ago but never researched details about it. So I had thought it was only a very short reduction in time without removing content. But today I decided to do a little...

The Littles (Mill Creek vs S'more) questions

I'm watching this show on netflix instant watch. And based on the disc contents on netflix site it appears they have the older S'more DVD set. S'more's title for the set implies it is unedited yet accounting for the runtime of the TV special the average runtime for an episode would be about...

    Older Roku model

Thanks for the reply. So after more research I think I have come to what may be what I do. I figure I'll post the info in case anyone had any thoughts on that. I think I'll get a used roku XDS. Seems that would cost me about the same or less than buying a converter to use with the roku 2 series...

    Older Roku model

EDIT: Now that I think about it and I thought it wasn't possible or something so I didn't search before hand; I could but a cable that converts HDMI to compontent and just get one of the roku 2 series and not worry about it. As long as tech doesn't make HDMI obsolete in the next year or two...

The Archive of Incomplete TV DVDs - Buyers Beware! (Updated 3/27/05)

That thread linked to has shown no proof of edits. Nobody has watched the episodes side by side with original broadcast and scribed the exact content edited. So far everyone that has posted in that thread has managed to agree on is that at the chapter breaks it appears the normal commercial...

Lois and Clark possibly in 2005!

I'm going to have to closer examine the episodes then. I really hope that the DVDs are uncut. I always hate to find out after the fact. I looked around but didn't see any info saying they were cut on the DVD before I bought it.

Lois and Clark possibly in 2005!

Was the show aired uncut on TNT? I just got the season 1 set and started watching it today and checked running times compared to the TNT recordings of the pilot and 2nd episodes and the running times are the same except in the pilot there was a tiny bit of footage not in the TNT recording.

Quantum Leap Season Two - Music Replaced!

What about season 4? I think it is out in R1 did it have music replacements? If so I will wait and see how the R2 release is for it also. I wonder if I'll be able to sell my R1 season 2 and 3 sets so I can get R2.
