    Soundbar from receiver ARC

It’s a very small bedroom and decided I want to free up the floor space by not having speakers and wire strewn about, and I know wireless speakers exist but they suck for surrounds. I have a proper SS system in my living room

    Soundbar from receiver ARC

Thanks for the quick replies. That’s what I was afraid of but figured I’d see if it was even possible. So I think I’d need an HDMI switch as I have more devices than most tv’s have inputs. How do I go about connecting a switch to a soundbar and the TV? Thanks

    Soundbar from receiver ARC

Hi all. I can’t seem to find a solution to my situation. In a bedroom, have an older Samsung TV with two HDMI inputs(no ARC) a Denon S900w receiver, a couple streaming boxes and a gaming console. Been using 5 surround sound speakers and want to downsize to a soundbar. The receiver has two...

Hello! First post - HDMI hook up question...

You are correct, the 2400 doesnt have component inputs. I would run hdmi to tv, then use an optical cable for the dvd player and another optical or digital coax to the STB for audio to receiver.

VCR connection to tv and receiver with composite.

I think i understand what you're saying. However i can not get the tv signal to go into the receiver then to the vcr and back to the receiver and finally to the tv. I dont have a cable box, so my only options are going to the vcr with the main coax and have a patch coax cable from the vcr to the...

VCR connection to tv and receiver with composite.

Receiver's VCR (video tape monitor) setting, if present: On -- The receiver is actually selecting something else for an input but sending that signal only to a VCR via special VCR Out jacks. Only a VCR's output coming in the matching VCR In jacks is sent to the TV (via composite and/or...

VCR connection to tv and receiver with composite.

Thank you for the reply Robert. I understand it all now. I was a bit confused on what input setting the receiver would need to be on for watching tv with this setup because i thought you'd need to have it set on vcr since the rca cables would be connected to the vcr inputs of the receiver, but...

VCR connection to tv and receiver with composite.

Hi guys. First off, I have a yamaha receiver thats capable of upconverting composite and s-video to component. I currently have a vcr connected straight to my tv via the in & out coax connections of the vcr. This is of course the poorest quality. I want to connect it to the tv but through the...

Receiver: 7.1/5.1 channel or stereo 2 channel?

Agreed with Jeff. Also, i know i plug Yamahas a lot here, but they're great amps, Yamaha's have a pure direct feature which bypasses all the video circuitry and DSP modes that produces a very clean 2-channel audio signal. You'd be fine getting a 5.1 system which you could use in the future if...

    Ordered New Receiver!!! Yamaha RX-V663BL

The 663 is comparable to the 659 that i have give or take a few features and watts. I like that Yamaha is now including Sirius inputs on their receivers. I wish i had that option but XM is fine for now. I didnt need HDMI inputs at the time but now wish i had them. Although I've heard that using...

    questions concerning yamaha rx v3800

Is your direct tv receiver set to output an optical signal? Check that its not outputting through HDMI. Also, can you just run audio from the Direct TV output to the second receiver and bypass the 3800? I'm not familiar with the cd-r in/outputs, but it seems a little strange to go that route...

Receiver: 7.1/5.1 channel or stereo 2 channel?

I would at least get a 5.1 system. Unless you are planning on devoting an entire room to home theater (i.e have room for all the speakers and if the room is big enough to worry about it) I would shy away from the 7.1. To me 7.1 really didnt make a difference although i have a Yamaha rx-v659(7.1...

    Home Theatre Wiring

Like Bob said, if you are running multiple component or hdmi cables into a receiver to use a source switch, then use the single monitor output of the desired cable to your projector. HDMI cables of longer runs can be quite expensive since you want to use a fairly good one for those long...

OK to put DVD player on receiver?

How do you mean longer? Is longer and deeper the same? Like others said, its not really good to stack components like that, but if its something thats used infrequently like the dvd player(unless you watch movies for hours on end) then you could put something on top of the dvd player assuming it...

    Basic vcr connection question

I have a JVC vcr which i have always connected to my tv via the rf coax cable....the main into the vcr and then out to the television. My question is, i want to run the vcr through an HT receiver, how would i go about the connection for that? The vcr doesnt have an S-video input so would i go to...

    minijack to toslink?

Yeah i can use a standard mini-jack to rca connections. I was just saying i can not use the multi pin connector for an ipod dock on the back of the receiver as i do not use an ipod therefore it will not go in the ipod dock thats sold as an accessory. I guess i was looking for a simple solution...

    minijack to toslink?

My apologies if this is the wrong forum for this. Does anyone know of a way to convert a regular headphone style plug to toslink? Im interested in pluggin in my mp3 player into the front optical connection on a yamaha receiver. This is a non ipod player so using the dock with the connection...

    New speakers require higher volume?

So Yamaha receivers are never meant to go above 0? Thats good to know, thank you. It turns out i was mistaken and the receiver doesnt have to approach 0 to be heard. Although it does have to go up 10db more on the volume control so probably -16 vs -26 with the old speakers. homthtr - well my...

    New speakers require higher volume?

Thank you for the replies. The sensitivity of the new speakers is 85db. I'm not sure about the sensitivity of the old speakers as the specs are not written on the speaker. I believe they are both 6 ohm speakers. Do you think i should get speakers with a higher efficiency than that? Its...

    Home Theater setup question

If your receiver is capable, you can get component cables for the ps2 and the dvd player part of the combo player, pass them through the receiver and to the tv with a single set of component cables. This makes your receiver work as a switch or junction box. Of course if your tv has enough inputs...

    New speakers require higher volume?

I just hooked up a pair of yamaha outdoor speakers to my yamaha receiver and i have to turn the volume up significantly to get it as loud as i had with my previous cheap outdoor speakers. I was overdriving the first speakers(my receiver is 100 watts/channel while the speakers were probably 40...

    Connecting vcr via composite.

Hi, I'm hooking up a JVC dvd/vcr combination player to a new Sharp flat panel tv. I also have a HDTV cable box that will be hooked up soon. My question is, how do i hook up the vcr through all this? I was told to connect the vcr to the tv with standard rca cables after going through the cable...

    Would this decrease quality?

I'm looking to connect a SACD/DVD-A player to a receiver and i was wondering if i can use 3 standard RCA cables(6 total plugs on each end) for this connection? Or am i stuck buying a $40+ cable for this? I know i dont have to buy Monster as i know the truth about them, but is there anything...

    Optical and coax inputs

Haha nice. THanks for the info guys. One more question, is it true that using a dvd for a cd player will burn it out a lot faster? It seems like it could but i dont play cd's for hours on end.

    Wattages at different impedence

Can someone tell me how to figure the wattage with difference impedence speakers? Im looking at the Yamaha RX-V459 or V559 receiver and they said 90 and 95 watts/channel respectively, but does this change if were to set it for six ohm speakers or even four? Im guessing the wattage given in the...

    Optical and coax inputs

Can someone tell me if this is possible? The new receiver im thinking about getting has only 2 optical inputs (the Yamaha RX-V459) and Im thinking about just buying a new dvd changer for both DVD's and CD's. My question is, is it possible to connect both the opitcal and coax cables for each...

    Center channel help needed

Thanks Wayne, yes it is a CS175. my apologies. It has one woofer, which was one of the reasons i thought it might sound the way it does. I have tried adjusting tone controls and it still sounds pretty bad. Thanks for the help. I guess i should step up to the csi25. Anyone have luck with this...
