    Aliens Expanded (Documentary) (Blu-Ray)

While that's cool they're getting all the big players, $99 is too much for a retrospective documentary for me to open my wallet for a physical copy, to say nothing of $49 for digital.

    RAINTREE COUNTY on Blu?

Filmstruck (R.I.P.) also had a not-so-great, but better than VHS version of the roadshow print for a while that was all in widescreen, but horizontally squeezed. I also recently stumbled upon a fan reconstruction of the roadshow using the general release master and an upscaled copy of the...

Biblical-Roman-Egyptian epics not yet on Blu-ray

Some time ago, I spent a few days at the Herrick library out here in LA reading and transcribing the revised shooting script for Fall of the Roman Empire held in the Paramount Pictures scripts file. There was a lot removed from the final cut: More stuff with the Barbarian girl Helva, the...

Would you buy a Cleopatra: Director's Cut?

I realize the poster I'm about to respond to is listed as being banned, but now that I've had a chance to thoroughly pour through the dialogue continuity of JLM's rough cut of Cleopatra, which included everything that was filmed and exactingly notes what Mankiewicz had in his cut, I can speak to...

What's left, unreleased on 4k, that you would pay $50 to own on day one?

To avoid cluttering up the thread, here's my top three, day-one titles: Cleopatra The Shoes of the Fisherman Fiddler on the Roof

A Few Words About A few words about…™ The Alfred Hitchcock Classics Collection - in 4k UHD Blu-ray

Definitely gonna buy the 4K release of North by Northwest (and also an actual 4K disc player that I've been dragging my feet on getting). Something I wish I could find again was a short featurette that TCM put out in the late 90s/early 00s that was about the restoration of NxNW done at the...

    Aliens Expanded (Documentary) (Blu-Ray)

I'm curious what this documentary will offer that Charles de Lauzirika's Superior Firepower: The Making of Aliens didn't cover? $99 is a lot of money for a documentary that's trodding over familiar ground.

The Greatest Story Ever Told renovation

"People ask me why I'm playing in this picture. The answer is simple: Money, dear boy. I'm like a vintage wine. You have to drink me quickly before I turn sour. I'm almost used up now and I can feel the end coming. That's why I'm taking money now. I've got nothing to leave my family but the...

The Greatest Story Ever Told renovation

My copy of the new blu-ray just arrived and I'm giving it a watch. I agree with Douglas, the transfer appears to be the exact same from the prior blu-ray. I wasn't expecting MGM to put a single shekel towards cleaning up the transfer, yet I still find myself disappointed. To have gone through...

I guarantee you Capelight would get complaints if they didn't. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

The Greatest Story Ever Told renovation

There's nothing really to "investigate." Stevens was massively behind schedule on the picture and had to bring in Lean to do all of the interior scenes with Claude Rains, and Negulesco for the Nativity and some scattered other shots early in the first act. The documentary He Walks in Beauty...

Press Release PHE Press Release: Star Trek: The Motion Picture Restored Director's Edition and Six-Movie Collection (4k UHD)

Is this the usual Paramount special of putting a new coat over the same old disc with the same old special features?

Biblical-Roman-Egyptian epics not yet on Blu-ray

I've got my preorder locked in, so fingers crossed for at least something of an improvement of prior releases.

    RYAN’S DAUGHTER: Discussions for a BD Release (2015 - 2024)

There's a UK 3-disc blu-ray coming out at the end of the month for TGSET. I just preordered it, though I have little hope it'll be a better scan than the previous releases.

    Coppola/Zoetrope version of Napoleon?

Wow, so this version will be almost two hours longer than the Brownlow version that was released on DVD back in 2016? That's amazing!

Press Release Criterion Press Release: Peeping Tom (1960) (4k UHD Combo) (Blu-ray)

I just bought that along with 10 or so other StudioCanal Vintage Classics discs earlier this month, so of course Criterion would announce this now... But hey, maybe this means Criterion will be getting other StudioCanal titles back, like The Third Man, Kurosawa's Ran, the Ealing comedies, etc.

Warner DVD's not working thread - watch to make sure they still play

I haven't had issues with my copy of Fisherman, and I play that one fairly regularly, a few times a year or so.

    A Few Words About A few words about...™ Cleopatra (1963) - U.S. Release -- in Blu-ray

Or, as I posited upthread, someone does an Ambersons-style animated recreation of the missing scenes using the available archival documentation.

    A Few Words About A few words about...™ Cleopatra (1963) - U.S. Release -- in Blu-ray

Funny you mention Titus the Moneylender, because he was already omitted from this first cut. I even have a letter that Walter Wanger sent to Currie in September 62, apologizing that they had to cut his scenes in the film.

    A Few Words About A few words about...™ Cleopatra (1963) - U.S. Release -- in Blu-ray

Apologies for necro-posting this rather old discussion, but I've recently added a "smoking gun" document to my Cleopatra collection that made me think of this thread. I happened to discover an auction for a complete dialogue continuity for the original assembly cut, with markups for lines to be...

Pre-Order The Big Country (1958) (Reissue) (Blu-ray) Available for Preorder

I'd be curious if any of the deleted scenes survive in any form anywhere? A few years back, I did a bunch of digging in Gregory Peck and William Wyler's collections out here in LA and discovered just how much material was filmed that was excised. I'd say another half hour or so, based on the...

Will Around the World in 80 Days ever get a special deluxe edition like The Wonderful World of The Brothers Grimm?

The 30fps 65mm YCMs survived in good condition?! I feel like Christmas came early, just hearing that! My wallet is ready and willing to shell out the quatloos needed to see the final product, Dave.

    A Few Words About A few words about...™ Heaven's Gate -- in Blu-ray

I was just about to go rewatch this on the 3-disc German BRD set the other day when I remembered that it lists a commentary with Lem Dobbs, Julie Kirgo, and Nick Redman... but I'm unable to find it for the roadshow or theatrical cuts on any of the discs. Has anyone else been able to locate it...

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) -- in 4k UHD

I think this is gonna be the one that finally pushes me to upgrade my home theater to 4K, and that's all due to reading RAH's background on the restoration efforts. That Robert Harris seal of approval does more to motivate my wallet than a cadre of home video promotion department employees or...
