I use a 35' HDMI cable to connect my receiver to the projector without any apparent signal loss. Having the receiver in another room will sure give you some very long speaker wire runs and if you have a remote requiring line of sight you may have challenges.
Yes I tried that. The reset firmware is the same number as the 'latest' download firmware. It only limits me to not having the web features which really are of no use on the second player. All discs and files play fine. The only setting I really use is the DSD Auto feature which is the one I...
Hi. Back at you from Wasaga Beach. The M45.R.0052 is only for the X800M2 but thanks anyway. I have the latest update M36.R.0338 for my X800. The unit will not allow me to overwrite it with the same version. I guess I'm pooched. Sony Support is shut down due to Corona. Cheers for your feedback.
Good day eh fellow Canuck.
Jim are you familiar with the UBP-X800 set up ? I have two. One works perfectly, the other right out of the box will not retain any of the set up configurations. It seems to reboot to the factory defaults each time it is turned on.
The challenging unit was for a...
I'm finally learning the lyrics to The Hollies 'Long Cool Woman'. Great tune. I must have heard it hundreds of times over the years but I never new what Allan Clarke was singing.
They are Dalfred bar stools from Ikea. They are uncomfortable as hell to sit on, but they are very stable.
The adjustable seat feature make fine tuning the speaker height and toe in very easy if necessary.
Impressive. Very creative use of materials. Cool theme idea. I think you are having fun ! I look forward to more pictures as you progress.
I can appreciate how much work went into the 'door' to your secret room.
I have no idea if it adds to bass response, but I used a Dricore insulated subfloor. It does make a basement floor a lot warmer for less than $2 a square foot.
I have always set the receiver crossover settings to 10Hz above the speakers lowest frequency rating (or roll off as some call it), To me there isn't much point in having a low end capable speaker if you are going to clip its frequency range.
You might want to check out the Audio Technica ATH-M50x. I have used them for over a year for Home Theater night time listening and I am very happy with the clarity and full bass they provide. Well under $200.
The sub and LPF settings should be good. I have my speaker crossover settings lower at 50Hz as I listen to quite a lot of multichannel music on SA-CD and DVD-Audio. For movies John's suggestion of 100Hz is fine given the speakers you have. If you wish to have more localized sound for anything...
That you may want to experiment with that. I would say leave it at the default of 120. I am not a pro. I think it is designed to prevent doubling up on the lower frequency outputs between the main, surround and the subwoofer. I am sure there are reams of chatter on the net about it.
On the 585 there is no small/large setting. You need to manually tell the receiver the lowest frequency that the individual speakers can handle. I set mine to 10Hz above the speaker specs (50hz for my make).
I have the 585. I am very happy with it. Plenty of power for my needs. Easy set up. Phono input and Dolby Atmos to boot. I managed to get it for under $300 USD equivalent.
And this from the Dolby site:
If the chosen overhead speakers have a wide dispersion pattern (approximately 45 degrees from the acoustical reference axis over the audio band from 100 Hz to 10 kHz or wider), then speakers may be mounted facing directly downward. For speakers with narrower...
I copied this from the Dolby site:
Overhead speaker characteristics Dolby Atmos audio is mixed using discrete, full-range audio objects that may move around anywhere in three-dimensional space. With this in mind, overhead speakers should complement the frequency response, output, and...
I purchased a resale copy of the Blu Ray only and the single CD release. The PCM Stereo track on the Blu Ray is exemplary, much smoother on the ears than the CD. The Atmos track is a full use of every channel and has a complimentary use of the height channels. Martin did a terrific job on...
Thank you for the compliment. I have always had a fondness for black and white photographs. Thank you as well Angal.
I just upgraded to an Onkyo TX-NR585 and since the ceiling is conveniently unfinished I am considering adding two speakers for Dolby Atmos.
I ran a dedicated 15amp circuit for the electronics. Enough room behind the false wall for built in speakers.
Before the black felt frame and grey surround.
I have always found that the more unobstructed space you give speakers the better they sound. When I began planning this project many years ago space was the key factor for audio playback. In fact it was one of the determining factors for the home I was considering for retirement. I had carte...
