Reviving this thread! Saw "Detective Pikachu" the other day and thought it was wholly... okay. Seemed very "safe" to me. It wasn't snarky or edgy enough to embrace the promise of Reynolds' casting, but it also wasn't "pure Pokemon". Rather than be fire or ice, it ended up as lukewarm water...
