Watched "Lu Over the Wall", a Japanese anime available through GKids. Rather unusual production for an anime. Parts of the film actually remind me of a NFB of Canada production. One of the more fully animated anime films I have seen, with good use of squash and stretch. I thought it was a decent...
I watched an episode of an anime called "The Magnificent Kotobuki". It is about a group of female fighter pilots contracted to protect a dirigible from air pirates. it is an alternate Earth fantasy, where the women fly Hayabusa fighters and contend with a range of enemies flying different...
Go Nagai's Devilman:Crybaby on Netflix. I watched the entire first season, but I'm still asking myself why since it was a seriously disjointed story and brutally violent to boot.
Don't listen to him. The film does jump around and takes some effort to follow; however, it all comes together at the end. It is a very good film. It follows the facts, for the most part, with a modification to a character's reason for their motivation and actions, but that was at their request.
Just finished watching Night of The Generals. Very good. Unusual take on a WW2 based film, with a bit of a twist that you don't see coming. The ending was a bit disappointing. Still, the movie moves to the top of the list of the ones I ordered from Twilight Time.
I don't see the two Jackie...
Finished watching GOLD. The film reminded me of why I have never bothered watching ARGO. It gets an F for cultural appropriation; in other respects, it was decently made.
Thursday:
Watched "My Life as a Zucchini". French animated film. Very good.
Watched "Jupiter Ascending". Visually the film is a real piece of eye candy. Storywise, it is kind of incoherent. Still better than Battlefield Earth by far.
Friday:
Watched "Wonder Woman". Not bad for a DC superhero film.
Watched the 4K of xXx: Return of Xander Cage a couple of days ago. Entertaining. Lots of ridiculous action. Good for a few laughs. As long as you are not one of those that expect every film to be Oscar-worthy and socially relevant.
Watched Miss Hokusai last night. It was good, but it could have done with more exploration of the main character. Still i like how the Japanese are willing to use animation as a medium to do more than just comedies, unlike the North American industry.
If I don't get around to it earlier, The Accountant in 4K; although, I've been thinking of returning it and renting or buying the Blu instead. A review I read said that the differences between the two are minimal.
Maybe "Deadpool" and "Underworld" if I feel like it. Both of those are the "4K"...
Watched "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" last night. Not bad. I thought the 3D was quite well done; although, sometimes the image seemed a little "soft". Could just be my aging eyes though.
Tonight: STORKS 3D
Watched the home video release of "The Lego Movie" in 3D. This was only my second viewing of the film. The first was at the theatre. The second viewing of this film, allowed me to realize just how dark some of the humour was in the film. For example, the horse that was on fire as it ran across...
Well, I just finished watching a blind buy. The Criterion edition of "Ministry of Fear". I'd never seen it, so I picked it up on a whim. The film is decent enough, but not as suspenseful as the cover synopsis made it out to be. Frankly, I thought the essay about the film and Fritz Lang was...
