The acting, dialog, and directing of the first half are amateurish at best. My skin crawled the entire first hour. It was so obvious and on the nose that you could have just had a crawl explaining how devout he was.
I didn't think Lion or Hidden Figures were Oscar worthy, but then again, I wasn't a huge fan of Loving either. Hacksaw Ridge was another WTF candidate. The second half of that movie was well made, but the first half was dreadful.
Hell or High Water wasn't Oscar bait for the sole reason that it was released in August and not the traditional awards season window. It garnered it's critical accolades more organically.
I absolutely disagree with your assessment of the films. Moonlight was the best movie for me and many other viewers and critics. Your comments are your own opinion, and in my opinion well off base on multiple levels.

If you get the opportunity, try to see Sing, the Hungarian short film. It's a wonderful little film and stood out admist a pack of really heavy short films.
If Miranda wins and Oscar, he won't just claim the EGOT, he'll have the even rarer PEGOT - the P is for Pultizer Prize. Only two PEGOT winners exist, Miranda could be the third.
Thanks for the info, I had no idea the category was so new. Also, up until 2010, there usually only 3 pictures up for the award. It's been 5 ever since.
It's actually not that surprising that Dory didn't get a nom. Since their first Animated Feature nomination for Monsters Inc, the only sequel that's gotten a nomination is Toy Story 3, although neither of the first two were nominated for that category (A Bug's Life was also ignored, presumably...
