Marantz AV 10 - Initial Impressions

Here you guys go applying logic where I was [for the moment at least] more comfortable with emotion. The app is a lot better than stock Audyssey but a gradual approach with this tool is clearly the better choice.

Marantz AV 10 - Initial Impressions

Phil Jones and Cam Valentine do a deep dive into Audyssey MultEQ X and Pro. other than Phil's insistence on calling it MultIQ instead of MultEQ throughout, it's very informative. For me it's also confirmation this is not a path I want to take as I have no interest in becoming an audio...

Looks like Denon and Marantz (Sound United) may be busy with more important concerns at the moment. https://www.strata-gee.com/masimo-board-authorizes-management-to-prepare-spin-off-of-consumer-unit/

Marantz AV 10 - Initial Impressions

True but that's an 11.2 processor, so not a direct competitor to the AVM70.

I think Marantz considers the AV8805A to be that product.

Marantz AV 10 - Initial Impressions

I spent a little time studying the features of MultEQ X. Whether it provides minor or major benefits over the app can be debated but it definitely lacks bass control, which is the main area I'd be willing to pay for some improvements. I have to give it to Anthem on that point. ARC Genesis [at...

Marantz AV 10 - Initial Impressions

I briefly owned the AVM70, so I'm more or less familiar with their current platform. I posted detailed thoughts earlier in this thread but, basically, I feel Anthem needs a [much] better UI and remote. I also found Arc Genesis a bit buggy but, hopefully, that's been sorted by now.

Marantz AV 10 - Initial Impressions

This made for great viewing while waiting for my flight, as expected. I wish Gene and Theo had gone into greater detail regarding this recommendation. What they did say [learning curve, etc.] regarding Dirac and Audyssey MultEQ X are the exact reasons I've avoided them. Why pay more if it...

Traveling but I've been reserving this for the upcoming return flight.

Marantz AV 10 - Initial Impressions

Hello and welcome, I don't know who "Terry" is but, if you've trusted his/her work in the past, I'd think it makes sense to wait. I haven't played with Dirac personally but everything I've come across in my research suggests at least a moderate learning curve. Dirac in the Marantz line is...

Likewise, I knew you were discussing Dolby Vision before and should have inferred what you were attempting to convey. These days I rarely have the luxury of focusing on a single issue.

You don't need to worry about that with me. Arguments require two participants I I don't choose to expend my limited energy that way. My comments regarding the OSD were only intended for general 4K content. I have zero experience with Dolby Vision but it sounds like something Marantz should...

Marantz AV 10 - Initial Impressions

In the case of the AV7703 [and likely the SR7012 as well] it most certainly can. If you're not able to see the OSD over a moving image it's probably due to your video conversion and/or IP scaler settings. Video conversion must be enabled to use the OSD. See pages 196 and 295...

Assuming by "DV" you mean Dolby Vision? I can't say with certainty because [as a projector owner] I never actually do that but I can't see why it wouldn't.

I should also have mentioned, the MultEQ Editor app set both of my subs to -12 which, according to reviews, seems to be a known bug. It's a simple fix as I always level match my speakers post calibration anyway.

If you're saying I should have said "inclusive of the AV7703" then, yes, I did.

Marantz AV 10 - Initial Impressions

Absolutely. You might even be able to have both stored locally on the processor for easy switching, depending on your model. Mine allows for two presets and you can have many more calibrations stored in the app and available for upload.

I've been meaning to do this for some time now but finally got around to trying the Audyssey MultEQ Editor app. While I use a Galaxy Tab S as my HT's remote control and have Android-based devices throughout my home, my phone is an Apple device. This is mainly due to Android's terrible in-car...

Marantz AV 10 - Initial Impressions

Good day! I use a very old Samsung Galaxy Tab S. I'd love to replace it but the newer models lack the required IR emitter, which is sad. The remote software is called Touchsquid. I don't believe it's being developed anymore but I think you can still find it out there. The free version is...

But you'd gain access to the MultEQ Editor app and [I believe] even MultEQ-X Pro. The latter is $200.00 but gives you a high level of control, still for a fraction of what Dirac wants with their steep learning curve and [depending on who you listen to] dubious results. As I said, I'll likely...

Marantz AV 10 - Initial Impressions

Absolutely. I actually disabled 8K on my AV10 as the JVC NZ8 does a much better job when it's needed.

Marantz AV 10 - Initial Impressions

Don't we all but, honestly, in this case I'd pay the current price if it was a simple, turnkey solution and guaranteed to produce substantial, discernable improvements in my overall audio experience. Based on what I'm reading and seeing, that does not appear to be the case. Instead it seems...

Marantz AV 10 - Initial Impressions

The below two articles have convinced me Dirac is not right for me, at least not yet and especially at the current asking price for the full suite. Other than bass response at times, I am not overly dissatisfied with the audio quality in my system, given good source material. What I most want...

Marantz AV 10 - Initial Impressions

Overall, I love the AV10 and am convinced I made the right long-term choice for my situation. It's not perfect and could take a page or two from Anthem's AVM70/90, but the UI of those devices [along with lots of buggy, unrefined behavior] made them non-starters for me. The AV10 sounds more or...
